Resident Evil Survival Unit is a survival horror strategy title from Aniplex Inc. and JOYCITY Corp. The game became available a few days ago, followed by a soft launch in select regions this September. However, you will experience this latest addition to the Resident Evil franchise in a new way, creating a fresh experience in this mixed genre.
After playing the game for quite some time, I was impressed by the gameplay mechanism and everything it has to offer. Then, I decided to make this Resident Evil Survival Unit Beginners Guide and included some tips so that you can enjoy and progress faster.
Resident Evil Survival Unit Gameplay Basics
The Story
The game begins with you stuck in an empty mansion, isolated from the rest of the world. It gets pretty exciting once you’re in. However, the fear of getting infected isn’t gone at all, as you’re broken in supply, weaker without some aid from the other survivors.

You cannot defend and set up a supply unit for your survival. In a sense, you need a continuous supply, arrangements, and establishments to survive. Now, the job is to find the others, build a strong base, and get everything it needs to survive among the infected.
You will gather, deploy, combat, build, and do other activities with the survivors and grow over time. Besides, the game expands to a huge world map where you will be able to join an alliance, build a strong community, etc.
Gameplay Mechanism
I assume that you already know the game is a mixture of two genres. Besides base building, it also features a real-time strategy where you can control the players with a joystick and tap, shoot, and explore. Though it is within a small area, the blend lets you feel deeper into the game.
I also mentioned that the game will give you an overwhelming number of establishments. And, you will need to continuously upgrade them and keep the correlation with each section. The game (what I experienced initially) provides tons of freebies for the early game growth, and you can use the materials, i.e., equipment, to get the initial boost. You will have quests, rallies, events, and other tasks to also gain equipment from.
Heroes and Recruitment
They’re basically survivors whom you rescued during your quests. Some join casually and help you build a team. They’ll aid with their expertise. These heroes are differentiated into several classes and roles. There are three rarities: Epic, Rare, and Legendary.

Besides, their roles expand to Attacker, Defender, and Ranger. Moreover, some heroes have other specialities as well. There are two types of recruitment: Advance and Special. You get recruitment flare guns in several ways, and you can use them in the recruitment section to claim new heroes.
The Mansion
The Mansion is going to be your main hall, or the city center, or town hall, if you’re familiar with any base-building game. It will be your ability and limit at the same time. This means you should be able to upgrade other establishments to a certain level based on what level of your Mansion. So, you know it’s a priority.
Other establishments
Alliance Center is your guild and community center, mostly, so this is the second most important establishment in your town. Then comes the Research Lab, another common structure of this genre. However, you can choose three separate research systems like War, Development, and Economy based on your preference.
For the newbies to the game, you should focus on the development phase first before jumping into action. The next one should be the economy sector, and then you can move your attention to the war section. Do not rush; rather, keep a steady pace and maintain a combination and synergy among all the sections.

Development will make your game efficient, as well as keep your base at a regular pace in terms of upgrading everything. The economy will increase your output of resources. It is important in the early game if you’re an F2P player. For those who don’t look at money or are ready to pay more, you do not need to worry about the economy at all.
The other establishments, like the Farm, Lumber Mill, Fuel Facility, Material Depot, etc., are essential for your growth. You should keep a balance in upgrading everything for a smooth supply of resources. You will fall short of materials if you do not get enough supplies from these establishments.
Game Modes
There are rallies, campaigns, and practice modes. While you can fight the zombies and infected, you can also fight the other players in real time to test the ability of your squad. The campaign system has three sub-campaigns, which you can also explore and challenge yourself in fights.
Resident Evil Survival Unit Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks
1. The Auto-Rally feature is an asset to improve
The game uses an auto rally feature, which unlocks after you join an Alliance. You can then march to raids and rallies. The auto rally feature ensures your squad is always deployed even when you’re offline. This helps you to contribute and gather contribution points.

Apart from this, you should also enable the Exploration in Campaign mode. It will automatically take you to the exploration system, and you will continue receiving rewards and bonuses.
2. Levelling up Heroes is crucial, but with caution
The game currently has 17 heroes, unlocked periodically. You will unlock almost half of them in the first hour of gameplay. But leveling them up will take quite a lot of time. You should begin with the epic characters because this is the second-highest tier, just after legendary.
As the hero upgrade system gives you combat power and forms your entire squad, which has more overall power, you should upgrade them with caution. So, spend your resources wisely.
3. Events help with your progression

The game often brings up events, and playing them will let you get some extra bonuses. As the game gives you few resources and they’re also very hard to farm, you should not miss any event. Before joining, check what rewards are available for you, and then you will know how to play.
4. Use the Hero Recruitment wisely and get powerful
Hero Recruitment System doesn’t offer as much dynamism as gacha games. As the hero numbers are limited and you get most of them in the initial phase, you do not need to worry. But as I said above, you should be cautious when upgrading the heroes, not obtaining them.
5. Team Building is a priority
Your overall strength depends on your team, so managing and building a capable team is a big priority. Based on the roles, you should also arrange them in proper order so that the overall strength gets higher. This helps you to win raids and rallies.
Final Thoughts
Resident Evil Survival Unit is already a hit title for its gameplay mechanisms and dynamic style in building and strategizing. Apart from you enjoying a top-down view where things are happening behind the screen, this game also lets you enjoy actions from the front row.
I hope the beginner’s guide to Resident Evil Survival Unit will aid you in many ways. I’m planning to make a more exclusive guide on progression, but do share your thoughts on that.
