When it comes to turning the tide in duels in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, a lot can be done in order to do so. Some players would recall that the anime has had pretty overwhelming effects when characters would play certain spell cards and eventually earn them the win. Spell Cards in Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel
Spell cards in the anime showed to have huge effects and often did so much that the characters would end up winning or losing in dramatic fashion as a huge spell card play changed the entire duel. Take for example how Yami Yugi was able to pull off wins with his ritual spells.
And with that, players can also have the pleasure of taking part in close, dramatic, and exciting games with their decks along with good spell cards. But do take note that the infamous Pot of Greed from the series is still heavily banned, so players could not rely on that game-changing two-card draw.
Best Spells for beginners in Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel
1. Swords of Revealing Light
First seen being used by Yugi in the Duel Monsters arc, Swords of Revealing Light has been known to be pretty overpowered when it came to utility. This spell card can provide protection to players’ life points by preventing the opponent to attack during their turn. Not only that, players who use this spell flip up any set monsters of the opponents thus providing an advantage on their part as well.
The mechanic that made this card as powerful as it is for beginners is that it gives a three-turn stall in order to gather up cards by their draw phase to get back in the game. Most of the time, beginners utilize this to stop a strong monster on their opponent’s field from attacking and taking those three turns to take down both life points and the strong monster of the opponent.
Although not as commonly known through the anime, in the earlier games of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Raigeki has been proven to be a good spell card for beginner duelists to have in their decks. Based on the image above, the text and effect are short and sweet.
Players can use this if they would want to get rid of any pesky opposing monsters that they could not beat right away. And if ever an opponent would stack their monster zones with potential threats or even monsters to could not be destroyed by battle, this is the spell card for the job.
3. Harpie’s Feather Duster
Playing a similar role to Raigeki, Harpie’s Feather Duster is one spell card that could definitely change the outcome of any duel. Some players’ decks heavily rely on set spell and trap cards, and with that, one activation of Harpie’s can definitely wipe out their chances of pulling off any combos they had in mind within their spell and trap zone. Players should be wary about using this card since it has been off the forbidden list for some time but it is limited to one copy per deck.
4. Monster Reborn
Much like a couple of spell cards on this list, Monster Reborn is limited to only one copy in a deck. Just like a lot of pretty impactful spells, this one has a short text but a pretty powerful effect. Most players would recognize how overpowered this card was in the anime and its effect was the reason it was banned not long ago.
Monster Reborn allows the player to special summons any monster in either graveyard to the turn player’s field in either attack or defense position. The player could then use that monster for any reason they want to.
They could end the duel by attacking their opponent directly or keep it from being used while in the opponent’s graveyard. Using Monster Reborn has and always been pretty powerful unless negated, but for beginners, this is usually seen as a good trump card.
5. Double Summon
This spell card also just has a short text on it but can prove to be quite a lot when conducting the player’s turn. Normally, players would only be able to normal summon or set once per turn, but the activation of this card would allow 2 normal summons or sets.
This can be used to put up a good defense for your field or even summon out the effect monster from Gemini Monsters. This card could also set up lots of special summons for synchros, Xyz, and more.
6. Power of the Guardians
This spell card can be quite the saving grace when equipped with a player’s ace monster. Although it may seem a bit complicated, it can be fairly simple. What this does is it adds a five hundred attacks and defense point bonus each time an attack with the equipped monster is involved. That would mean that when a player would attack with that monster against the opponent’s monster or directly, it would gain five hundred points to its attack and defense.
Additionally, each time that would happen, this spell card gains one spell counter. For each spell counter, those are a number of times that the equipped monster could be prevented by being destroyed by battle or even card effects. Of course, while the monster can be protected, a simple Mystical Space Typhoon could just destroy this card and its effects.
7. Enemy Controller
Commonly known when Kaiba used this card against Joey in the anime and through some Yu-Gi-Oh! PSP games, this spell card can prove to be a good turning point. The player can use any of the two effects listed on the card as long as the requirements for the second effect are in order.
Since Enemy Controller is a Quick-Play Spell Card, it can be used during the opponent’s turn with the proper timing. Players can use this card to change the battle position of one face-up monster on the enemy’s field. And the other effect is that with a tribute of one monster, even tokens of Scapegoat or others, players could take control of one face-up monster on the opponent’s field. The player who activated Enemy Controller in this scenario would be able to do anything with that controlled monster. They could use it to attack the opponent or even use it tribute, ritual, synchro, xyz, or even special another monster.
The use of spell cards can be quite crucial given the circumstances, unless players are going for a full trap or monster deck then these spells are the way to go. These spell cards can definitely change the tide or even earn players the quick win. Players should also take note of the cards that are limited to one copy per deck but could also see that when editing their decks.
