Imperia Online discusses how externally acquired in-game assets can prove successful

Cvetan Rusimov, the COO of Imperia Online shares some of his exclusive trade secrets

Imperia Online is one of the biggest game production companies in Southeastern Europe and has been part of the leading free-to-play powerhouse Stillfront Group since September 2018. Since its foundation, Imperia Online has developed and operated numerous game projects, but it has also successfully taken on externally developed games through in-game assets acquisitions. The studio now operates two such titles: Siege: World War II and Crush Them All.

Imperia is a live-ops expert and has been running live games on mobile and desktop for more than 16 years. The studio’s flagship title is Imperia Online, a medieval MMO strategy game published on both browser and mobile platforms.

Turned the table for two games by acquiring their in-game assets

In early 2020, Imperia Online took over the development and operation of Siege: World War II from its Stillfront sister studio Simutronics. By creating new content for the game and adding more live-ops resources, Imperia was able to turn the declining title into a stable one with maintained DAUs and increasing profits, while Simutronics could free up resources to focus on other prioritized titles and new game development.

In June 2021, Stillfront acquired Crush Them All, a popular idle RPG developed in 2017 by Godzilab. Immediately following the acquisition, the game was transferred to, operated, and published by Imperia. The game has been performing well during Imperia’s stewardship and just a few months after being added to Imperia’s game portfolio, Crush Them All was nominated for Best Role Playing Game 2021 at the TIGA Awards

As a long-time developer and publisher, Imperia knows that it can be difficult for studios to let go of a game, but our experience shows that it can be a smart and efficient way to finance new game development, while it also brings new energy and life to the existing game title and its player community. We see this as a classic win-win situation, where everyone benefits from the transaction

Following the successful acquisitions of Siege: World War II and Crush Them All, Imperia Online is now on the lookout for its next game acquisition where the studio can leverage its long live-ops experience to spark new life into overlooked game titles.

Cvetan Rusimov further says, “If you are a studio and feel that you have a game project which you are not able to give the time and resources that it and its community deserves, then don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Imperia would be happy to discuss a solution where we can support you while you focus on other projects.”
