Have a sneak peek into how Wild Rift gets balanced

Like every MOBA title, League of Legends: Wild Rift also needs to balance each and every champion present in the game. Sometimes, it may happen that a particular hero gets too overpowered to handle on the Summoners Rift. In order to keep every champion steady, Riot Games has formed a Balance Team to keep the game stabilized. In this article, we will discuss the Wild Rift balance changes FAQ regarding this upcoming balancing in the game.

Overview of the Balance Team

The team is led by Jonathan Chao. The team consists of experts from different backgrounds.

Basically, the team looks at everything after you start the game until you turn it off. They maintain the game’s content. Provide essential updates and so on. To be specific,

  • They keep an eye on the Champion stats and abilities after release
  • Essential updates on Runes, summoner spells, and items
  • Provide Recommended loadouts
  • Overall game pacing
  • Structures and minions
  • Jungle monsters and neutral objectives

According to Jonathan, the balance team lead;

At Riot, we use the term “data-informed,” not “data-driven,” so we’ll always be looking at win percentages, pick rates, and a hell of a lot of graphs, but we also acknowledge that something can be technically balanced, yet frustrating. If there’s something you’re not happy with, let us know!

Jonathan Chao, Head of the balance Team

Their main motive is to make League of Legends: Wild Rift the most balanced MOBA ever. With the rising competition, it’s their first priority in order to stand out different from others.

About Champions Balance Framework

The game is currently built on the Champion’s Balance Framework of League of Legends PC. They expect to collect more data to enhance it. The Framework was introduced in LoL to monitor the 148 champions and segregate them into four different player groups: Average, Skilled, Elite, and Professional. If a champion was overperforming in ANY of the four groups, they would be nerfed in a coming patch update, and if they’re underperforming in ALL of the four groups, they’re ready for buffs.

Balance Update Schedule

The major balance patches will come out every two weeks on a fixed day of the week. Players can get informed about it via updates on Social Network platforms. Riot is still working on the development timeline and expects a lot from the Regional Open Beta.

Wild Rift balance changes FAQ

Basically, changes go through a full development pipeline that includes data validation, designer discussions, implementation, playtest validation, and quality control. Riot wants a streamlined development and patch updates where a single bug won’t require repeated updates.
