- Activision is reportedly testing multiple new mobile games.
- AI-generated ads for these games have surfaced on social platforms, leading to survey pages.
- The app store page-lookalike redirects users to a survey instead of providing a game download.
Activision is reportedly exploring multiple mobile games, and going by the names, they all look very ambitious. However, things have not started nicely for them, as the advertisements that have been showcased have already left fans skeptical about the upcoming titles.
None of the games officially exist yet but advertisements are in full flow
So, the heart of the matter is that Activision is testing several potential new games, including Guitar Hero Mobile, Hexen Reborn, and Crash Bandicoot Brawl, to name a couple of them. While the hype is something we can’t shrug off, the overall vibe is disrupted by one aspect: AI-generated ads.
A recent AI-generated advertisement for Call of Duty: Zombie Defender surfaced on Instagram, leading you to a Geeklab page, which has currently been taken down. But there was another catch here: these games don’t exist yet.
For all the games, it was noticed that the company has been running AI-generated advertisements across platforms like Facebook and Instagram, directing users to mock-up app store pages that lead to a survey instead of a download. You can see one ad for the Zombie Defender game here.
At the time of writing, the Hexen Reborn page is still up. Try clicking the Get button in what seems to be an App Store popup, and it will take you to the survey. You don’t even have a back button option to return to the fake storefront they’ve put up.
While all the games sound promising, Activision’s use of AI-driven ads makes it sketchy
So, talking about the games that were listed, all cater to different experiences. Hexen Reborn is said to be a dark fantasy action game with fast-paced combat and hidden lore. Call of Duty: Sniper focuses on 1v1 duels with destructible environments alongside the mobile version of the rhythm game franchise, Guitar Hero.
Based on the hit franchise is Crash Bandicoot Brawl, which will be a chaotic survival game where 30+ players compete in platforming challenges. At last, Call of Duty: Zombie Defender lets you control a squad, build defenses, and fight off zombie waves.
Activision’s approach here isn’t entirely new. The company recently confirmed its use of generative AI tools for some in-game assets in Call of Duty, so it may be exploring similar AI-driven strategies for game development.
Whether these games will ever see the light of day remains uncertain, but it is surely getting some bashing by its fans. Although AI has seen impressive advancements, it is surely not something we would want to see in our games, right? Still, to one’s preferences.
