Spiderweb Software has announced that its turn-based fantasy adventureRPG remake, Avernum 4: Greed and Glory, will launch on December 3 on iPad for $9.99. This remaster of the cult-classic, Avernum 4, is part of the indie favorite Avernum series and has already been released on PC and Mac.

Revisit a cult classic turn-based RPG remastered with a fresh engine

So, you’ll soon get to fight for fame, power, and treasures in the subterranean nation of Avernum, as Avernum 4: Greed and Glory is arriving on iPad. Now, some fans may remember it, but for the rest, this is a turn-based RPG and a full remaster of the original game released in 2025, which kicked off the Great Trials Trilogy.

So, lore-wise, the world is set deep underground, stretching across caverns, mines, and labyrinths kept alive by its inhabitants. Here, you start with your own goals, wandering the edges of the underworld, but once you arrive, you quickly realise that disaster has taken place.

Players can dive into a massive world, clear dungeons, and try new questlines

Call it bad luck or fate, but you’re the one who has to save Avernum from its crisis as powerful forces eye the treasures hidden below. That said, I was too young when the original launched, so I’m really eager to dive into this massive world, as the intriguing characters, clever dungeons, and quests look super fun.

What makes this remake stand out is that it is rebuilt in a new engine with improved visuals, 20+ new questlines, and sprawling dungeons. And even with these upgrades, it manages to keep its deep lore, branching choices, and tactical combat that people fell in love with.

Play

So, if you want an open story with diverse factions, freedom to build a team with over 100 abilities, traits, spells, and more, this is it. The game is set to launch in early December on iPad, and you’ll be able to buy it from the App Store for $9.99.
