Clash Royale December 2023 update: Princess Tower card, Balance Changes, and more

What is in store for us?

The ongoing Season 54 season has seen a new inclusion in the December 2023 update that arrived to Clash Royale today. Upon installing the latest game update, you’ll observe that your Princess Tower has transformed into a Tower Princess card, alongside some other updates that arrived. So, let’s dive in and look at what’s come to the game.

Clash Royale December 2023 update overview

Tower Princess Card

Well, this was discussed in the Clash Royale 2024 roadmap which was supposed to come next year, but we have already got our first Tower Troop card in the Tower Princess Card. Confused? Alright, let’s break it down. Tower Troops are like the undercover defenders of your game. They chill on top of your Crown Towers, staying hidden until the match starts.

Each Tower Troop has a different ability that makes it unique. And just like your other cards, these Troops level up and get better when you collect more of them and throw some Gold their way. Now, outside of battles, there’s a special spot in your Battle Deck just for Tower Troops.

To power up your Tower Troops, your regular Princess Tower gets a facelift and becomes a Tower Princess card. It levels up to match your King Tower. Hit a new King Tower Level on your journey, and you’ll get some Tower Princess cards and Gold to boost your Troops. However, you can’t let your Tower Troops out-level your King Tower. So, if your King Tower is at Level 12, your Tower Troop can’t push to Level 13.

Tower Troops are a mandatory part of your Battle Deck, so everyone needs one to play. You cannot use any old magic items on these Troops. Most won’t work, except for the Magic Coin. This Princess Tower makeover is so that you can gear up for the exciting launch of brand-new Tower Troops in January 2024.

UI Changes

Coming to UI Changes, the developers have split the Deck Builder and Card Collection into two separate tabs. Additionally, there’s a revamped look for the Shop, featuring clearer sections to help players easily locate what they’re after.

Game Terminology Changes

The game terminology has undergone some changes for clarity:

  1. Tower Power
    • Now separated into two distinct terms:
      • King Tower LevelTower Troop Level
This modification allows for independent-level progress for your King Tower and Tower Troops. They are no longer intertwined in terms of leveling up.
  2. Princess Towers
    • Renamed as Crown Towers
Crown Tower levels are now associated with your Tower Troops, breaking the previous connection to your King Tower Level.

Improvements and Bug Fixes

Here are some improvements and bug fixes listed.

  • Evolution Shards are now potential rewards in Event Challenges.
  • Arena 13 rewards on Trophy Road now consist of cards from Arena 13.
  • The playful King Jiggle animation for the King Tower taking damage has been removed.
  • Crashes in the Deck Builder during Seasonal Event changes have been fixed.
  • Localization issues with overlapping text in some languages have been resolved.
  • The ‘scroll to top’ button for Pass Royale has been moved to the left side of the screen.
  • For Arabic language users, web pages accessed from Settings are now automatically translated.
  • A crash issue when claiming two Masteries simultaneously has been fixed.
  • The Evolution Shard tutorial now displays, even if a player’s first Evolution is unlocked via Wild Shards.
  • An issue where empty deck slots would auto-populate with cards has been resolved.

Clash Royale December 2023 Balance Changes

Well, a new Evolution card arrived with the Ice Spirit this season, and hence a balance update was expected that arrived.

Buffs

Ice Spirit Evolution

  • Cycles: 3 2

Players didn’t use the evolved Ice Spirit much because it took longer to deploy than other evolved cards, making it less useful. To fix this, they made a big change, reducing the cycles needed before evolving. Now, it’s on par with most other evolved cards in terms of deployment speed.

Nerfs

Archer Evolution

  • Power Shot Damage: -15%

The extra damage from the Archers’ new Power Shots seemed a bit too strong, as they consistently dealt that bonus damage in most situations. Instead of compromising on the range, a key feature of the Evolutions, the decision was made to decrease the amount of damage dealt.

Goblin Giant

  • Spear Goblin Hit Speed: -13% (1.5 sec 1.7sec)

The recent buffs to Spear Goblins in both February and April, coupled with the August buff to Goblin Giant, have led to a prevalent Goblin Giant-centric meta. It took some time to grasp the card’s strength, and to avoid significantly weakening it, the decision is to revert the earlier Hit Speed buff specifically for Spear Goblins.

That’s all for the Clash Royale December 2023 update!
