Fortnite set to return to Google Play worldwide as Epic and Google settle dispute

It is coming back, folks!

Story Highlights
  • Fortnite will return to the Google Play Store worldwide soon.
  • Epic Games and Google have settled their long-running dispute.

After years of legal battles, Epic Games and Google have finally settled their disputes, and the news brings a big update for mobile players. As part of the agreement, Fortnite will soon return to the Google Play Store worldwide sometime in 2026.

The announcement was shared by Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, who thanked Google and confirmed that Fortnite will once again be available directly through the Play Store. At the same time, Epic will continue supporting the Epic Games Store on Android, giving you another way to download the game.

Alongside Fortnite’s return, Android is introducing easier support for third-party app stores

Fortnite’s removal from mobile stores goes all the way back to 2020. At the time, Epic introduced its own direct payment system inside the game, bypassing standard app store fees. That move led to Fortnite being removed from both Google Play and Apple’s App Store, sparking a long legal battle.

Things began shifting in 2025 after court rulings pushed changes in how app stores operate. In December 2025, Fortnite finally returned to Android in the United States through the Google Play Store after a five-year absence. With this new development, the game is now expected to roll out globally on Android again sometime this year.

Alongside the settlement, there is some good news. Google also shared that several platform changes are on the way. The company says Android has always focused on flexibility and openness, and the next set of updates will expand how developers distribute apps and games across billions of devices.

One major change is a new registered app store program that will make installing third-party app stores easier with a smoother setup process. Another update introduces a new business model for Google Play, allowing developers to use their own billing systems alongside Google Play Billing while also lowering service fees.

Overall, players and developers on Android seem to have found the perfect balance of a wonderful experience. This is only going to get better, and as we see the legal battle finally coming to a close, better experiences on the platform await us. Keep updated on this space as we might find out when the return date is set.
