Big Gaming Giants NetEase and Tencent have not been approved licenses in the third and biggest approval of new video games title in China. Earlier, two batches of new game approvals in the country have already been released in April and June respectively. According to sources, China’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) have granted licenses to 67 new video games in the market for mobile phones, PCs, consoles, etc which also includes streaming platforms like Bilibili and Tiktok owner Bytedance.
The number of new video titles approved is higher than the games that are approved last month. Tencent and NetEase are nowhere to be found in the new approval list.
Tencent and NetEase’s next developmental strategies after exclusion from the domestic list
NetEase and Tencent are the two main big faces in the global gaming industry and these two giants dominate China’s global gaming industry. Despite being reputed and yet famous names in China’s gaming market, The NPPA decided to not include their names and were excluded from the approval list even in the third batch of new approvals of video games in the country.
Seeing the rise of video gaming consumption among the young population in the country, The Chinese Government has thereby decided to curb certain rules to stop this video gaming addiction for public health concerns.
On being excluded from the domestic list of approved games in China, Tencent and NetEase both will start refocusing on increasing their global share and continue releasing video games for the global gaming market. Tencent’s shares have almost dropped by 26.8 percent since the last July while NetEase also faced the same fate, shares dropping by 10.7 percent.
