Day 2 of gamescom asia 2024 kept the momentum of the stellar Day 1 going with an exciting mix of competitions, cultural discussions, and sneak peeks into upcoming games. Held at the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore, the event gave attendees even more reasons to celebrate the creativity and innovation shaping the gaming industry in Asia.

Minister Alvin Tan highlights Singapore’s role in Global Gaming

The day began with an opening speech by Minister of State Alvin Tan, who emphasized Singapore’s rising influence in the gaming and e-sports industries. He thanked both local and international partners for selecting Singapore as a hub for showcasing creativity and innovation, underscoring the city-state’s commitment to becoming a key player in the global gaming scene.

Pitch Competition celebrates Southeast Asia’s creative talent

One of the day’s major highlights was the Pitch Competition, which featured 55 entries from indie developers worldwide. Thirteen finalists took the stage to present their games, including eight from the Southeast Asia region.

Battlebrew Production’s Love in Tiny Spaces won Best Pitch, Ammobox Studio’s Project Guardian claimed Best Game Design, and Bit Egg Inc.’s Lost and Found Co. was named Most Anticipated Game. Winners received a range of prizes, including cash rewards and playtesting vouchers, to support further development.

VIPs get an exclusive sneak peek at the Entertainment Area

VIP attendees were treated to a preview of the entertainment area, where leading brands like CAPCOM, PlayStation, and 4Divinity unveiled their latest games. Pre-release titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl drew eager crowds. Over 60 indie games were also available for hands-on experiences. The entertainment area will be opening to the public on October 19.

Wan Hazmer discusses integrating local cultures into game design

Wan Hazmer, Founder and CEO of Metronomik, delivered an insightful talk on the value of incorporating local cultures into game design. He also touched on how this approach can help indie developers and gaming studios build a lasting identity, ensuring they stay relevant in the industry for years to come.

B2B afterparty closes the Business Area with style

The B2B segment of gamescom asia wrapped up with a vibrant afterparty, offering attendees a final chance to network and celebrate. Conference delegates, VIPs, speakers, media, and exhibitors came together to mark another successful year for the Asian gaming industry. With gamescom asia 2025 already in sight, the celebration ended on a high note.

Looking ahead, Day 3 promises more exciting events. The CAPCOM Pro Tour 2024 Super Premier Tournament will see the top 16 players compete in Street Fighter 6. You can look forward to exclusive meet-and-greets with Andrew Wincott, the voice of Baldur’s Gate 3, and the creative team behind Monster Hunter Wilds. There is also the Indie Wavemakers Showcase scheduled.
