Genshin Impact: KFC Glider arrives for Western players via Twitch subscriptions, community dissatisfied

Players worldwide angry at having to buy Twitch subscriptions

miHoYo, in a recent announcement, revealed the details to obtain the much-awaited KFC glider in Genshin Impact which was made available to people in mainland China in March 2021. It was a part of a collaboration with the fast-food chain KFC, wherein fans of the game could get access to redeem codes by buying either Noelle or Diluc themed KFC buckets. However, the way the KFC glider, Wings of Feasting, has been made available to Genshin Impact players worldwide has not gone down well with the community.

Genshin Impact KFC Glider: How to get

Travelers can get their hands on the special glider by taking part in an event on Twitch via the Adventurers’ Guild. The event requires players to purchase two months’ worth of Tier 1 subscriptions for the content creators selected for this event. The participating creators will be selected by miHoYo and the complete list will be unveiled on HoYoLAB by November 24.

The event-exclusive glider will be made available between November 25 and December 8. The event is tied to the streaming platform Twitch and therefore players need to have a Twitch account. The item will not be available once the event ends, so players who want to obtain the Winglider should purchase it by following the steps mentioned below.

  1. Log in to your Twitch account between November 25 and December 8.
  2. Visit a channel that will be participating in the event. The list of content creators will be made available on HoYoLAB’s event page.
  3. Purchase a two-month Tier 1 subscription and gift it to a streamer from the eligible list of characters.
  4. A redemption code will be sent via in-game mail on successfully completing step 3. Only players Adventure Rank 10 or above would be able to use the redeem code.
  5. Go in-game and paste the code in the Redeem Now section found within Settings.

On redeeming, travelers will receive Wings of Feasting via their in-game email. Along with the glider, players will also get 30,000 Mora, Jade Parcels, two Tonkotsu Ramen, and two Sauteed Matsuke.

Community reactions

The community has been enraged following the announcement for various reasons. Firstly, players are not happy with the fact that they have to buy Twitch subscriptions even if they aren’t interested or don’t use Twitch extensively. There is a part of the community that doesn’t watch streams but would be interested in getting the glider which seems to be a weird way to integrate the glider into the game.

Another problem that players have expressed is that the list of content creators does not include a lot of big names whom they would gladly support but instead they have to subscribe to creators they don’t recognize.

The Chinese community paid almost the same amount in exchange for food and redeem codes which sounds a better bet to some rather than buying subscriptions to random creators. What has irked a part of the community is that the prime gaming subscription would not count towards the two months, so gamers will be forced to buy the subscription.

Lastly, as revealed by some content creators like Tectone, AsianGuyStream (Atsu), the contract which the streamers who agreed to be a part of this program signed are really bad. This is a major reason why a lot of big creators have declined the offer.

All in all the situation seems to be very murky, with miHoYo remaining silent. While miHoYo may not be completely wrong as the decision can help small streamers get recognition and implementing a global giveaway with KFC or any other chain would be very difficult, the way in which the rollout is happening is not a very pleasing experience, especially considering the fact that the contracts these streamers have signed with miHoYo are rumoured to be quite unfair.
