- Varsapura's 31-minute gameplay follows the protagonist's SEAL entry test.
- Characters such as Sayuki, Simmons and Mr. Shadow make an appearance.
- HoYoverse quietly teased this project for months with trademark and social accounts.
HoYoverse has finally shown what it has been cooking behind the scenes, and yes, Varsapura is real. After months of trademark sightings, strange social media activity, and fans guessing what this project could be, HoYoverse has now dropped a full 31-minute gameplay demo for Varsapura.
Varsapura Gameplay Demo opens with the protagonist’s mission to join SEAL
The demo opens on a rainy day, as the drops hit the road. Minutes later, you follow the protagonist, who is applying to join SEAL, also known as the Shadow Emergency Alliance. Her motivation is simple: a police officer once saved her life, and she wants to follow that path.
She signs the agreement, and then the SEAL officers Simmons and Sayuki, send her into a practical test: beating shadow creatures, rescuing civilians, and proving she’s stable enough to join. By the end of it, she passes, and that’s when the tone shifts.
We get to meet Mr. Shadow, a mysterious figure who seems central to the entire story, and then the demo opens up into a much larger world. Joining Sayuki, the protagonist jumps straight into the action to beat monsters, and as the evening hits with the sun out, they share cans of Americano.
Of course, the world immediately got players talking. A lot of them noticed that the map is almost one-to-one with Singapore. The drive shown in the demo seems to be going from a place called Bencoolen to Dempsey Hill, and the roads and buildings are incredibly accurate.

Lore-wise, the game is already filled with interesting terms. You’ll hear about “mindrotting,” which seems tied to the shadow outbreaks of a person, and the protagonist is supported by an AI assistant named DAWN during missions.
From the video, the game was played on a PC. We also see moves like stealth and heavy attacks, alongside the option to control more than one character, as the demo showed all three in action.
Varsapura’s trademark and development were revealed back in July
For longtime followers, Varsapura is not a surprise. In July 2025, HoYoverse filed the trademark and also created social media pages. I remember discussing the idea behind the name, which was Varsha (rain) and Pura (city), and since we had rain to kick off the demo, the idea of “City of Rain” suits perfectly.
It’s also worth noting that this is not the same project as the recently teased Unreal Engine 5 fantasy MMORPG, although both these games are part of the mega lineup of future projects.
At the time of writing, there is no information available on what’s coming next, whether it’s a test or details about the launch, or even the platforms we are getting. This might go on for a long time, and we’ll have the general process of tests, pre-registration, soft-launch, and the release. For details, keep an eye on updates in this space.
