- The ICC is exploring the development of its own mobile cricket game to diversify its revenue streams.
- A proposal will be presented during board meetings in Harare, with plans to open a tender for developers.
- Competition from existing titles like Real Cricket and WCC3 could be challenging.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), the global governing body of cricket, is considering developing its own mobile cricket game. This move aims to tap into the growing mobile gaming market while diversifying the organisation’s income streams.
According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, the ICC’s digital team is set to present its proposal to the Chief Executives’ Committee during board meetings in Harare, Zimbabwe. The plan is to open up a tender for developers, initially targeting a mobile release.
India’s booming $3.8 billion mobile gaming market is a key motivation behind the ICC’s interest
It isn’t an unknown fact that cricket games are popular among people, even though broadcast rights revenues are potentially slowing down. Mobile gaming is exploding, especially in cricket-crazy nations like India, where the market is set to cross $3.8 billion. The ICC wants a piece of that action, but pulling it off won’t be easy.
One of the reasons would be how big the current cricket mobile game market is. There are already established big names, such as WCC3, Dream Cricket, Hitwicket, Star Cricket Mobile, and Real Cricket in the free space, with Cricket Captain being a premium offering.

Also, if they want to make this a game, they need some amazing developers on board. Although the games now are good enough, what is lacking is the realism and depth, something that console games already have with the Cricket 24 from Big Ant, for example.
For now, nothing is officially confirmed. But one thing is clear: if the ICC gets this mobile cricket game right, it could be a game-changer for all the fans involved.
