Shueisha Games has announced their new pixel-art sim, KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat, set to launch on Android, iOS, PC, and various consoles. Developed by Kairosoft, this title celebrates the hit manga series, KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops‘ 50th anniversary.

I forgot how many years it has been since I last heard of this childhood favorite, KochiKame, so this announcement for KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat gave me a sudden wave of nostalgia. And, the fact that it’s celebrating the manga’s 50th anniversary shows how well loved it was across decades.
Now, this is a get-rich quick-like shopping district sim, and you’ll also join the beloved Officer Ryotsu Kankichi, to revive a struggling district. Here, you start small by earning seed money via gambling and part-time jobs, and slowly build profitable facilities, to ultimately reach a billion-yen fortune.

I love how even here they managed to keep the humor of the series. Like, you’ll still have to watch out for the Chief catching you slacking off, which is very KochiKame thing you know. Also I can’t wait to meet the entire police box crew again, along with 200+ iconic characters from the manga coming in as customers.
Overall, this looks like a solid treat for us old fans and also new fans of course, mainly due to Kairosoft’s signature management gameplay and retro pixel-art aesthetic, that I really enjoy. And if that’s not enough for you, well, you’ll also get nostalgic storylines from the series through mini-games and story events.
KochiKame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat is set to launch on Android, iOS, PC, Switch 1 and 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox Series. However, the release date will be revealed later, so stay tuned for more updates! Another good news is, KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops is also getting an anime adaptation.
