Light of Motiram pushed far off the “horizon” as legal riddles will keep the release away atleast till 2028

Inspiration at a cost!

Story Highlights
  • Tencent's Light of Motiram is confirmed to not release before the fourth quarter of 2027.
  • The freeze also blocks new trailers, tests, and promotions until the legal dust settles.

Light of Motiram might not see “light” anytime soon, judging by how things are unfolding. The ongoing legal battle between Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and Tencent Games is expected to keep the open-world survival on hold at least until 2028.

The news is directly tied to the legal battle with Sony, which began a legal battle in July 2025, citing that the game borrows too much from its blockbuster Horizon series of games. Hence, on this basis, the recent court agreement on December 2, 2025, clearly says the game cannot release before Q4 2027.

Light of Motiram screams exciting potential for a blockbuster adventure-survival experience

Until this legal dispute is sorted, Tencent isn’t allowed to promote, show gameplay reveals, test, or push the game forward publicly. As for the current developments, the next big hearing has been scheduled on January 29, 2026.

I think the similarities were very evident since the developers unveiled the game for the players last year in November. The cover art and gameplay elements instantly drew clear comparisons to Horizon, and I had already pointed out that the game risked coming across as a Horizon copy unless Tencent secured the proper rights.

Still, the game itself was shaping up into something interesting. Thinking about an open-world survival adventure set in 2068 with unique Mechanimals, co-op play, and heavy exploration is exciting. There’s even that Indian-inspired twist I noticed with names like Motiram, Hanuman, and Agni, which players found refreshing and unique.

Now this sits in a freezer, and the invite-only testing the devs did in China remains the only time players got to experience the game. With the earliest possible release set for late 2027, the realistic timeline pushes us well into 2028 for a proper launch, given the many steps still required before the game can go live. Things might change if the legal issues settle down, although unlikely, there’s always hope.
