Pokemon GO maker Niantic reveals its Ingress subscription

Get it for $4.99 a month!

Long before the launch of the wildly successful Pokemon GO, the developer Niantic worked on another massive online multiplayer game. That game is Ingress which uses some of the PokeStop and Gym mentalities to promote the war between two factions. Now, the Pokemon Go maker Niantic has revealed its Ingress subscription. Getting the C.O.R.E(which stands for Community, Offers, Recognition, Expansion) would cost costs $4.99/month and includes an inventory expansion, a monthly stipend of in-game credits and items, an exclusive medal and profile flair, and the ability to view your inventory and portal keys remotely via the game’s intel map.

What is the Pokemon GO Ingress subscription all about?

Instead of gyms and pokemon, portals are the capture focus in Ingress. Not only that, the team on which you play, can create gigantic areas of control.

The player gets to the story by being told that a transdimensional force called Exotic Matter (XM) was discovered as a product created by the Higgs boson research by a team of scientists at CERN, Switzerland. An alien race called Sharpers is associated with this substance.

On knowing, you are provided with the option to join one of the two factions: the Enlightened and the Resistance. The Enlightened believe the XM is here to take mankind to its next step in evolution, and it is their job to serve as a bridge. The Resistance sees the XM as a potential threat to humanity, and believe their work is to eradicate those unknown forces for the greater good. The Resistance faction is the blue colour on the map, and the Enlightened is the green one.

How to use Ingress subscription effectively

As the game is based on geolocation and capture of points, the player’s phone becomes his most important tool. From the map, you can see streets, water, portals, Exotic Matter, links, and control fields. Entering the 40-meter radius of the portal, you can capture it. It captures rewards with items, some being able to replenish Exotic Matter. Complete actions on the game grants to the player Action Points.

One must accumulate AP beyond some thresholds to reach access levels, going from 1 to 16, being 16 the maximum. You are encouraged to capture enemy portals, as their rewarding is better than maintaining the ones your team already owns.

Besides AP, other actions also reward Medals, tiered from Bronze to Onyx. You use those to upgrade past level 8 and are earn them by statistics such as captures, Mind Units (won with areas conquested), connecting portals, and discovering new portals.

What does C.O.R.E mean?

C.O.R.E comes to offer benefits to players who chose to pay a special non-mandatory fee. Not like battle passes, but a continuous subscription, with seemingly no expiring rewards. On the official site, the developers have stated that on subscribing on the early 30 days of launch will receive even more bonuses.

C.O.R.E., which stands for Community, Offers, Recognition, and Expansion, is an optional monthly subscription service for Ingress Agents. Soon available through the in-app Store, the C.O.R.E. subscription will be priced at USD 4.99 per month, or your local currency equivalent, inclusive of taxes and fees, determined by your digital distribution service (Google Play or the App Store).

When will the Ingress subscription option become live

For now, the only official information is that it is coming soon, but it shouldn’t take long. Since last year in November, players found that the option was coming through the application and App Store. In Pokemon Go, as in Ingress, inventory expansion is a much-asked-for addition.

Currently, you can upgrade your storage to fit 4000 Pokémon and 3000 items with PokéCoins you either buy or earn from gym control. This release is also attractive to Pokemon Go players, who look forward to having more storage space, Remote Raid free of passes, the unlocking of Legacy moves through Elite TM and other benefits like being able to play without leaving home (a task that has become more and more habitual in these times). As for Ingress’ map – it’s less likely this feature will arrive for Pokémon Go, which centres its own gameplay squarely on the app and not on other platforms.

Pokemon Go, one of Niantic’s other successes, has recently reported it’s biggest 12-month earning since its launch in 2016. The game will bring a paid event called Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto on February 20. The event is worldwide and you can learn more here.
