There’s no denying that following Pokémon GO confirming its $3.5 Billion deal with Scopely, players have raised plenty of concerns over the state of their favorite AR game. However, Michael Steranka, Senior Product Director of Pokémon GO, has reassured players not to worry.
If you check out Pokémon GO forums or discussion spaces, you’ll see a lot of players worried about possible changes. Some feared there could be more ads, pay-to-win mechanics, or even issues with player privacy. However, all queries have now been answered.
No worries about intrusive ads or data leaks, says Pokémon GO’s Senior PD
In an interview with Polygon, Michael Steranka addressed all these concerns and reassured players that the game’s core experience will remain unchanged.

There were concerns about changes to the game’s operations, but he made it clear that Scopely isn’t planning to disrupt the balance of Pokémon GO with intrusive ads. Instead, he said their goal is to support the game as it is and help it grow.
A big concern for players was how the ownership transfer might affect their data. Steranka confirms: “We do not sell player data to third parties, full stop.” Adding to that, he said that Pokémon GO doesn’t sell user data, and all location data stays secure on U.S.-based servers.
He emphasized that the entire Pokémon GO team is staying on board if they choose to. Scopely also wants to ensure continuity, so the game’s operations won’t be affected. For him, keeping the same talented team is essential to maintaining the game’s success.

Despite the ownership change, Pokémon GO’s core mission of encouraging players to go outside, explore, and meet other trainers will remain the same. Upcoming events, such as Pokémon GO Fest, are still moving forward, and new content is planned for the future, including the 10th anniversary project.
