Project R.I.S.E cancels upcoming “Barely Beta” test, citing unsatisfactory core gameplay experience

Uh oh.. another one potentially biting the...?

Story Highlights
  • Project R.I.S.E has announced the cancellation of its November test titled "Barely Beta".
  • The decision comes after internal tests which revealed major gameplay experience issues.

If you were getting ready to jump back into the Tower soon, there’s some disappointing news. The team behind Project R.I.S.E has officially cancelled the planned “Barely Beta” test that was scheduled for November 25, 2025, and they were very open about why.

Developers say the current Project R.I.S.E build is not at a level they feel proud sharing

Sharing the news on Discord, the developers shared that after their latest internal playtests, they felt the game just wasn’t in a state they could confidently release, even for a rough Beta. They said they’ve always been comfortable with bugs and jank, but this time, the build didn’t meet their own standards, which is why they chose not to push it out.

Instead of treating this like a short delay, the team explained that the problems go deeper than a few bugs. These aren’t the kind of issues a couple of weeks of cleanup can fix. They called them fundamental experience problems that need proper rebuilding, not patching.

So they’ve decided to take a step back and focus on areas like tools, pipelines, and internal systems before they can move forward toward a real Beta, Soft Launch, and everything that comes after. It also means there won’t be any playable builds this year.

This update arrives months after the big moment earlier this year, the Alpha Test in January. So while it is disappointing to lose the Barely Beta, especially after ten months of waiting, the silver lining is that the developers want to give you something they can stand behind.

Supercell’s recent projects are struggling, currently. With Squad Busters shutting down and mo.co still taking time to give a full-fledged experience, along with fears it could face the same fate as Squad Busters, Project R.I.S.E. also appears to be slipping off track.

For now, at least we know the team is rebuilding the foundation instead of rushing something out. As more details arrive, I’ll keep you updated.
