PUBG Mobile has announced the new Season Ascension for 2026, introducing new Promotion Match and Season Series in Season 28, from January 11. So, Game Designer JY, has revealed the key updates and reason behind the changes in the latest PUBG Mobile DEV Talk.

Grinding Ranked matches will be meaningful again

I honestly think Promotion Match and Season Series systems are the kind of changes PUBG Mobile Ranked matches needed for a long time now. To me, Ranked is once again getting its purpose back, as these changes or updates give us veteran players with clearer long-term objectives and rewards to grind for.

The dev team had an internal discussion and found out the two core issues. Reaching high tiers like Ace and above doesn’t give us the same prestigious feeling as before, which is one of the main reason me and my friends and I stopped grinding. And I’m sure that the story is same for many of you reading this article now.

We really needed a system that focus on long-term growth and prestige, and I’m really glad that the devs have finally realised this, and are introducing the two new systems, Promotion match and Season Series. To give you a short summary, Promotion Match systems feels like a proper trial for reaching Ace and above.

I mean, once we hit the required Rating Point threshold, we unlock promotion challenges for Ace, Ace Master, or Ace Dominator. And while competitive, it makes it more fun, as we need to consecutively complete various individual challenges to move up the tier, unlike before.

Our skills will matter more than teamwork and frustrating grinds

This will help revive interest among players as it no longer matters how many matches we play. The best part for me, which some players won’t lik,e is that our allies no longer affect our promotion, since it now depends on enemy count alive at the time we get eliminated. Man, it will be tough to rank up. We have a PUBG Mobile rank push guide, just in case you’d like to get some tis!

But don’t worry, as there’s one-time progression protection per Promotion Match round. Plus, the exclusive season cosmetics are like cherry on top, along with the new Glory Badge, which reminds me of my favorite MOBA, MLBB, as the badge will record how many times we reach a high tier.

Coming to the Season Series System, it also looks familiar to Brawl Stars’ system. For instance, they’re now focusing on longer time period, instead of a single season. And in a way, it’s great, as now three consecutive seasons form a Season Series. Thanks to this, we’ll get a Season Series Medal, which tracks our performances.

Play

Overall, I feel these changes were much needed, and kudos to the team, as they’ve delivered well with features like Continuous Challenges, Trial Challenges, and Season Series Treasury, benefiting us long-time players. I guess I need to now convince my friends to push to Conqueror once again, and hopefully they say yes.
