PUBG Mobile latest dev blog hints at the permanent futuristic game modes

What's in store for the future?

PUBG Mobile, ever since its launch in December 2017 has been nothing less than a milestone in the field of mobile gaming in recent years. The game has played a huge part in popularizing the adaptation of PC games in mobile and the overall esports scenario on the platform. Now, after almost 4 long years the developers are gearing up again to take the ever-popular game to new heights and keep it relevant in the upcoming days amidst other titles. Earlier today, the official channel of PUBG Mobile on YouTube dropped the first part of a video series named To The Future – Dev Log Update which showcases the behind the scenes tidbits of how the game has come to be what it is now and multiple teasers at what might be the futuristic game modes.

Exploring the PUBG Mobile future

According to the words of Rick Li, the producer of PUBG Mobile and his team, the game is currently in a state of adaptation and a complete makeover which is being done in such a way that the players are not affected and the overall ambience of the game is retained even after the makeover.

According to them, the changes have been under planning and scrutiny from as early as July last year. And as it has been said, all the modes and events in the meantime have been conducted to bring in an overall fresh experience and plan the future of the game based on their reviews.

As a result of this, we got “Mission Ignition“, the new mode which came with the 1.5 update and featured a futuristic Erangel map with revamps in 6 major locations in the map among other additions such as the Hyperloop and the cross country bike. As it can be deduced from the video, the Mission Ignition mode has been a live test conducted by the developers unbeknownst to us and is part of the plan to give the game a makeover over time.

Expect to have more updates in the future

As per the words of Lionel and Marquez, two members of the team behind the development of PUBG Mobile, the current Mission Ignition is just part 1 of the entire series of revamps coming into the game. In the ongoing Cycle 1, we are witnessing Erangel being modernized by the fictional in-game company DynaHex and as a result, there are many stark changes in some of the most popular player locations of Pochinki, Georgopool, Military Base, etc.

The developers have stated that they are very much against bringing all the changes in a single update as it will completely rock the familiarity that the players have with the game and thus affect the player base. Instead, there will be a series of changes to bring in all the updates. This way, the players will get time to familiarize themselves with the new map look and get used to it being a regular part of the game.

As of now, only the major buildings have been altered, but in near future, the residential areas and smaller compounds will undergo changes as well as they all come together to form the new and futuristic Erangel. The changes are supposed to come with each new cycle until we finally have the complete map with completed designs and revamps. No first looks or dates have been revealed as of yet.

A new multiverse

A new multiverse in the making

“It’s like you have to find the most suitable universe in an infinite number of parallel universes and then create stories that uniquely belong to it” the statement as quoted by PUBG Mobile developer Marquez might indicate that somewhere along the line we might get a PUBG Mobile experience which will feature new or old events simultaneously with each having its own lore and background. Though this is not official news but just a likely assumption based on the video quotes. However, Krafton has already announced earlier in July that they are working on creating a universe based on Battlegrounds.

Conclusion

What seems to be a very solid and practical approach to modernize the game, still remains to be seen how the practical approach is made which will determine the overall success and ratings of the project. With this move, we can expect the mobile gaming giant to tussle with the best of the best games available on the platform for a few more years at least. But despite all these positive changes it also comes with a con that is optimization in low-end devices.

Even with the recent updates, it has been observed that a huge portion of the players has been experiencing severe lag issues due to the sheer weight of the game on the device. Therefore, further updates without optimization will only cause more problems and will prompt a large mass of the player base to abandon the game which will defeat the overall purpose of bringing in these extraordinary changes to the game.
