Rocket League ‘Next’ experience may or may not arrive, reveals older documents from Epic lawsuit

The 'Next' experience could have been on another level

In an interesting turn of events, it seems like the complete experience of Rocket League – not the 2D version which is now known as Rocket League: Sideswipe but the actual game currently available for PC and Console could have arrived under the name Rocket League “Next” as a next-gen client.

Cross-play and cross-progression between PC, Consoles, and Mobile

This information was revealed in highly confidential documents which got leaked as a consequence of the Epic Games vs. Apple Lawsuit. Now, something similar happened earlier with Rocket League “2D” (Later changed to RL Sideswipe) but it wasn’t much of a surprise.

However, this is really the first time anyone outside of those directly involved in the Lawsuit and over at Epic and Psychonix LLC, who worked on the original game and was later acquired by Epic Games has heard of a version that allows cross-platform progress and plays across PC, Consoles, and Mobile. The cherry on top of the cake is the fact that this client would be arriving on mobile in beta before other problems.

It seems like Sideswipe could possibly have been announced and hyped up to offer a cool surprise to players in the form of a better game. This is evidenced by the fact that the game isn’t just a potential idea but was meant to go into beta in the second quarter this year. It’s possible that this couldn’t happen due to the lawsuit although they still have time left.

It is still not completely clear if the main client of Rocket League could possibly be extending towards mobile but Epic Games has always advocated for cross-play and making games available across all platforms, this also being the reason behind its disagreement with Sony, who didn’t support this.
