Zynga Inc., a wholly-owned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive, a global leader in interactive entertainment, has announced that its subsidiary Rollic has acquired Popcore, an independent mobile game developer based in Germany. Financial terms were not disclosed.
A leader in the puzzle genre, Popcore is home to chart-topping games such as Parking Jam 3D and Pull the Pin!, both of which achieved the status of being among the #1 most downloaded games in the U.S. Apple App Store. The deal further strengthens Zynga’s subsidiary Rollic as a leader among hyper-casual publishers worldwide.
Popcore has vast experience in developing innovative ad-driven, free-to-play games for audiences worldwide
Popcore, founded by brothers Thomas and Johannes Heinze, creates cutting-edge, free-to-play games with in-game ads for users all over the world. These games have been downloaded more than 500 million times across iOS and Android.
The team has created games with deep insights into user attitudes and behavior that have broad appeal and sustained engagement by using novel data testing techniques that enable experimentation with little risk. The Popcore team, which has its headquarters in Berlin, has over 150 members and works to develop, test, and expand its games.
Istanbul-based Rollic just topped 2 billion lifetime downloads globally, and 19 of its games have reached the top two positions in the U.S. Apple App Store. The company creates and distributes popular mobile games in more than 175 nations.
By incorporating live services and hundreds of in-game events into many of its best-selling games, it has redefined the rapidly expanding hyper-casual market. The lifecycle of Rollic’s hyper-casual titles is extended beyond the conventional window for the genre thanks to this evolution, which also helps to modernize engagement patterns.
