Among the recent developments in the mobile gaming industry, Slay the Spire is one game whose release is highly anticipated. Available for PC and Console, the announcement to port the game on mobile devices was made in January. Recently, one of their developers shared on Twitter about an announcement regarding the game will be made in a short time soon. This wasn’t really enough to catch the eyes of fans who are waiting for the official release. Undoubtedly, it has definitely got a buzz around.
About Slay the Spire Mobile
Slay the Spire is a roguelike deckbuilding video game developed by American studio MegaCrit. It was published by Humble Bundle. The game was first released in early access for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux in late 2017. The official release was set in January 2019. Further, it was released for PlayStation 4 in May 2019. Then for Nintendo Switch in June 2019 and for Xbox One in August 2019.
In the game, the player can select one of four characters. Each sets a starting relic that provides a unique ability for that character. An initial deck of cards with basic attack and defense cards are in. The goal is to work through several levels of a spire. Each level has a number of potential encounters distributed in a branching structure. A boss character at the end of the level is present. Encounters include monsters, campfires to heal or upgrade cards to more powerful versions.
However, Slay the Spire received a lot of positive feedback upon its release. It was nominated for several awards. Some of them being:
- 2019 Golden Joystick Awards: For PC Game of the Year.
- The Game Awards 2019 in the Best Indie Category.
Developments for a scheduled release began in early 2019. But in December 2019, confirmation of MegaCrit pushing their release into early 2020 was official.
MegaCrit in January, posted on twitter about the game just remaining to go through the QA Pass. There hasn’t been any new news since then.
What the developer has to say
Anthony Giovannetti, the Game Designer and Co-Founder of MegaCrit Games, recently tweeted that the team would have an announcement to make “within the next 30 days”. However, this tweet is nearly 10 days old. So, we can expect some new info regarding the status of the game within 3 weeks.
There hasn’t been any confirmation regarding what is the confirmation about. All the wish is that we get Slay the Spire for an early release on our mobile devices. The wait might end after the announcements.
