SEGA’s long-running mobile revival project seems to be entering another quiet phase-out. Sonic the Hedgehog Classic and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Classic are now showing an “End of Service” notice inside the apps, suggesting support is being discontinued.
While there has been no official public announcement yet, the in-game message confirms that online features are ending, though the games will remain playable offline.
Both games were part of the Sega Forever initiative that kicked off in 2017
The situation was first highlighted by Wario64 on Bluesky, who noted that both Sonic titles are likely being delisted soon on mobile storefronts. At the time of writing, both games are still available to download and are free to claim.
Interestingly, it also appears SEGA has pushed an update to remove ads from the free iOS versions of the games. It’s unclear whether the Android versions will receive the same treatment, but historically, removal of in-app purchases and ads has preceded full delistings in SEGA’s mobile catalog.

Both Sonic titles were part of Sega Forever, SEGA’s 2017 initiative to re-release classic games on Android and iOS as free, ad-supported downloads. At its peak, the service included over 30 retro titles, bringing Genesis and arcade favorites to modern smartphones.
However, in September 2023, SEGA quietly began discontinuing several Sega Forever titles without formal announcements. Apps were delisted, online features were removed, and social media accounts went inactive.
More removals followed in 2025, with multiple classics losing in-app purchases shortly before disappearing from mobile stores. Now, Sonic the Hedgehog Classic and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Classic appear to be the latest entries heading toward the same fate.

I would recommend you jump into your respective stores to get the games before they get delisted. Sonic the Hedgehog Classic is available on Android and iOS, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Classic is available on Android and iOS.
