A massive disappointment!

Story Highlights

Supercell’s ambitious Squad Busters dream has ended abruptly, as the shutdown has been officially confirmed. The studio confirmed that a final update is set to arrive in December 2025, after which the game will stay playable for a few more months before shutting down sometime in or after mid-2026.

Squad Busters servers will remain online until mid-2026 before the full shutdown

Squad Busters was Supercell’s colourful action game that brought together characters from across the Supercell universe. Launched globally on May 29, 2024, the game first appeared in early 2023 with two beta tests and later had a soft launch in April 2024.

It gained quick attention and positive reviews for its chaotic mix of heroes, familiar faces from the Clash universe, Brawl Stars, and Boom Beach, and fun team-based gameplay. Despite strong early momentum, Supercell admits that the game didn’t reach the long-term quality bar they aim for with their flagship titles.

According to the developers, the Heroes Update was meant to redefine the game’s direction, but it wasn’t enough to fix its deeper issues. By early 2025, Supercell faced a choice: keep trying to reshape Squad Busters or move forward to new projects.

They chose the latter, explaining that the decision was made to maintain their long-term vision of delivering games that players can enjoy for years. It was with the May 2025 ‘1st Anniversary’ update that introduced Heroes, and definitely, the fanbase was divided with this “2.0” revision.

Players can transfer their existing purchases to other Supercell games

From October 30, in-app purchases have been disabled, and starting November 10, 2025, you will be able to transfer any 2025 purchases to another Supercell title you play. Those who played Squad Busters extensively can also claim free bundles and exclusive crossover cosmetics via the Supercell Store until the end of 2025.

The community reaction has been mixed. Some players expressed disappointment over the direction of updates, while others simply felt it was unfortunate to see a game with so much potential come to an end. Comments like It was a fun ride and It had so much potential summed up the mood across the fanbase.

Supercell plans to share a written Q&A on November 13 to answer player questions and explain the decision further. The studio also mentioned that they are exploring ways to tell Squad Busters’ story in full, as well as opening a space to submit your queries via this form.
