Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, a new battle royale game for mobile

The world of Final Fantasy VII is back!

The world of Final Fantasy VII is back, and this time, it’s in the palm of your hand. Last year, Square Enix made an official announcement of a surprise upgrade for Final Fantasy VII Remake. And now they have announced even a massive surprise: a mobile battle royale game that is set to take place in the world of Final Fantasy VII. The upcoming battle royale game announced by Square Enix has been named Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. This game will introduce new story elements surrounding the founding of Soldier (the elite super soldier group Cloud Strife came from) and are canon to the Final Fantasy VII universe.

Other than what has been showcased in the teaser trailer, not much is known about the upcoming title just yet. A battle royale seems like a strange way to tell a story that relates to the Final Fantasy world. However, the teaser displayed iconic Final Fantasy VII locales and what is obviously fast-paced combat, weapons, and lots of magic! Tetsuya Nomura, the director of Final Fantasy VII stated that there won’t be a lot of storytelling in the game. However, the players will be able to play solo or in three-person teams. Moreover, it’ll be adding a “leveling up from defeating monsters” and add RPG mechanics to the battle royale formula.

Players will get to use magic spells and summons in Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier

If you’ve been a long fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, then you will definitely know that it has some great features in it. Nothing different with Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, as it has more great features up its sleeves. The game will allow players to use magic spells, battlefield Chocobobs, and of course, Final Fantasy summons. They can use firearms, spells, and melee weapons, and it’s even possible to call on the famous series summons, like Ifrit.

Iconic Final Fantasy characters will be available in the game

The game’s first teaser trailer revealed the Shina Electric Company that aims to bolster their military forces and went on to develop a soldier program – forcing them to put their soldiers to test in a gigantic multiplayer field.

That is where The First Soldier comes in. Its battle royale gameplay is very much like Fortnite, with players fighting to the last squad standing. Moreover, monsters from the Final Fantasy series can also appear as AI enemies for players to fight. It can be assumed that high-value rewards go to those who can take them out.

Square Enix will be releasing one more title for mobile devices

Square Enix has announced the release of two games to the mobile platform that are both set to take place in the Final Fantasy world in 2021 and 2022.

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, the first title will be released as a free-to-play battle royale game. It is expected to launch in November 2021 on Android and iOS devices. Square Enix has also made it clear in a new release that the upcoming battle royale takes place before the events of Final Fantasy VII.

The second title which will release in 2022 has been named Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis. The game is reportedly going to be a chapter-structured single-player title.
