Why Wild Cards is a digital card battler like no other

Ready for some battles?

Story Highlights
  • Wild Cards is the latest card-based title from Avid Games.
  • The gameplay features quicker match times with 12-card decks.
  • The game is free-to-download on Android and iOS platforms.

There are a lot of card-based titles out there. But we don’t think any of them have let you pit prolific author Agatha Christie against, er, a Bengal Tiger.

Until now. Wild Cards is the newest title on Android and PC from Avid Games – creator of Cards, the Universe and Everything (CUE Cards) – and it’s shaking up the rules of the card game genre.

How Wild Cards is different

This is a sequel to CUE Cards in all but name, really, but it is different in a few very important ways.

First, is that it boasts a much faster pace and also allows you to complete matches quicker. This makes it feel a perfect fit on mobile in particular.

How those matches work is simple. You build your deck of cards from a vast array of characters, real people, objects, creatures, or even specific stars in the solar system.

This includes Jane Austen, an Ouija board, a banana, and Blackbeard the pirate. The list is truly endless.

The game packs quite the cast

Having such a wildly varied range of cards available isn’t just to be quirky, though, with each one having its own special abilities that can be combined however you want.

When putting together your 12-card deck, you pick a hero, then take on others in a match of 9 turns to see who comes out on top. To win, you’ll need to use your special abilities at the right time, as well as set traps that’ll outwit your opponent.

Despite the vast range of characters to pick from, Wild Cards is very simple to pick up, thanks to a clear user interface. The pacey gameplay also means even card game rookies can enjoy the ride, with no overly stodgy menus or tutorials to slow things down.

You can find Wild Cards on Google Play and the App Store now, and it’s free to download – there are IAPs, but thanks to the player-to-player trading option, content isn’t all stuck behind a paywall.
