Wild Rift Patch 2.2 Update: Five new Champions, Wild Pass and Role Queue introduced

Huge patch notes incoming!

In the last couple of weeks, Ben Forbes, the Comms lead on Wild Rift, already teased the players with a screenshot of how big this patch will be. And looks like he was not exaggerating! There are several new additions and changes to items, game modes, champions and more. So let’s go over the details of this Patch 2.2 Update Preview in League of Legends: Wild Rift!

5 new champions

The upcoming 5 new champions revealed in the Wild Rift Patch 2.2 Update Preview were confirmed with this preview! The champions who will be the next to arrive on the Wild Rift will be Galio, the Colossus, Rengar, the Pridestalker, Kha´Zix, the Voidreaver, Rammus, the Armordillo and Renekton, the Butcher of the Sands.

New Tank items/changes

The League Team just revealed some very interesting tank items changes coming to Wild Rift in the 2.2 Patch. To sum it up, there will be an overall buff for tank items and champions with a big nerf to all marksmen’s attack speed and build consisting of Lich Bane/ Galeforce.

Winter’s Aproach and Fimbulwinter will have a change!
  • Winter’s Aproach and Fimbulwinter will have a change by taking away the armour aspect to make it more of an ability haste item. This item has mana with AP which will make it more interesting for tanks that eat a lot of Mana for their ability like Blitz.
  • The nerf to the marksmen was not a surprise since the developers had already noticed the marksmen dominance in the game.
  • The changes start with the building paths of Lich Bane, Galeforce and Sheen. All of these items will lose Mana and their price will be adjusted. For the lack of mana, the devs decided to let players stack mana from the beginning of the game.
  • A huge buff will be given to Thornmail, making it control the passive Grevious Wounds, by applying it when immobilizing champions. This will give a lot of tanks building it a more active playstyle.
  • The last item which will get a change is Sunfire Cape. The devs noticed the item lacking value in comparison to the PC version. Therefore, the missing mystic passive and tank stats will be added to it making it more of damage rather than durability item.
Force of Nature

Some items will completely be removed and replaced. For example, does Adaptive Helm need to give his spot to the new Magic Resist item Force of Nature since the devs noticed how hard it is to adjust Adaptive.

Frozen Heart

A completely new item will be added from the PC version to the game called Frozen Heart. It basically reduces the attack speed of nearby enemies which will definitely counter marksmen especially.

The overall purpose of these changes is a clearer vision of items and more viability in choosing to adapt to the enemy’s team and situation for tank champions. These are the first Item changes but they will not be the last ones this year according to the developers.

Role Selection

Finally, the long-anticipated Role Queue is being added to the game. The players can select their preferred positions from 1 to 5 with the first being the most prioritized. While this will not guarantee you get the selected position it is still an improvement to the game, especially for the competitive rank mode.

Wild Rift Patch 2.2 Preview

The implementation will not be included for the American servers at first and the selection will be on a game mode not effecting your win rate or MMR for testing in the beginning. It is advised for players to help out by testing the system as much as possible.

“First-to-Wild Rift” Stargazer skin line

Wild Rift Patch 2.2 Preview

With this preview, we also got our first look at the new “First-to-Wild Rift” Skin line named StarGazer. This timely exclusive to Wild Rift skins includes the champions Camille, Twisted Fate and Soraka. While it is released in Wild Rift first, it does not mean it is limited to the mobile version of the game. The skins will probably be added to the main game later this year. There were also mentions of other skins coming to Wild Rift like the PROJECT skin line, the BloodMoon skins and more.

Wild Pass is arriving for the first time

Wild Rift Patch 2.2 Preview
Wild Rift’s season pass is named as ‘Wild Pass’

To keep the players active after reaching the maximum level and/or rank the League team has revealed a brand new way for grinding. The “Wild Pass” will be added in the patch which can be levelled up to reward players with bubbles, emotes and at the peak of level 50 with a new skin starting it with skin for Jax. If you do not have enough time for grinding every game there is the “Wild Pass Elite” option which will grant more missions and a bonus of getting 5 levels ahead.

New game mode – All Random All Mid (ARAM)

Players looking for some new game-mode will be excited to hear that the team has decided to bring the well-known mode from PC “All Random All Mid” (ARAM) to Wild Rift. In this mode, there will be only one lane and all players will get a random champion from their own pool with an option to re-roll.

System Adjustments

A lot of systematical changes were revealed in this preview which will change up the way the players will play the game. Starting with the Summoner Spell “Ghost” which is being used a lot according to the developers. It will get similar changes to the PC version taking away some of the speed but making it last longer and re-apply after taking down champions.

The overall communication within teams will be buffed with new ping icons and options, (such as Enemy has a vision here), and an indicator on the mini-map which will light up when objectives (re-)spawn. This will hopefully improve team plays. The last-mentioned changes are mechanical ones giving players an option to reseize on how big ability dead zones should be. This will hopefully make missing abilities less. Also, you will be able to either hide a players name or change it with the name of the selected champion.
