Wordle: A simple browser-based word game has taken the world by storm

The word-guessing game has gained a lot of attention

Wordle, a very simple and minimalist word puzzle game is now seeing insane popularity as players are logging in to the game every day and sharing their wins or losses online. The game was first launched in October when it didn’t really have a large player base but now it has skyrocketed to over 300,000 players daily.

Wordle: Basic rules and how to play the word game

The game is very simple to understand but depending on the word, it could take players some time to guess it. Every day players have to guess a new 5-letter-long word. And although there’s no time limit, there is a limit to the number of tries players have, which is 6. If players guess the word correctly, they get it added to their streak, which keeps count of how many days in a row the player has managed to win the game.

If the letter turns grey, then it’s not anywhere in the final word. If it turns yellow, it’s there in the right word but in a different position and if it’s green, it’s in the right word and in the right position. Some players actually go with words that have more vowels to make it a little easier but others choose random words to make it harder.

Part of what made the game so popular was the attention it got from social media. Once players are done with the puzzle, they can share their results with their friends online and one of the places where people are showing off their skills is Twitter. Sharing the result allows others to see how many letters were right and whether or not players got the right word. However, it does so in a spoiler-free form by using block emojis.

And the best part is that players don’t need to download an app or stick to a single device! They can try simply out the game on their PCs or smartphones in the browser app by clicking here.
