Magic Chess: Go Go Review – More than just a cute MLBB spin-off

Claim victory and become the king of chessboard!

Magic Chess: Go Go is a chess-like strategy title by Vizta Games, a subsidiary of MOONTON Games. It is a standalone version of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s popular Magic Chess Mode, which debuted as a temporary mode but later became a permanent mode as it quickly became very popular among MLBB fans. In this Magic Chess: Go Go Review, I will share my impressions of this sequel and offer an honest rating.

For this review, I played Magic Chess: Go Go on Motorola G32, racking up a total of 30 hours of playtime. This allowed me to fully explore and experience everything that the game has to offer, providing me with a solid foundation for a thorough analysis. I will share my thoughts, highlighting the strengths of the game and areas where it can improve to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

If you are recently starting with the game, we have also covered Magic Chess: Go Go beginner’s guide to help you with the basics. Experience the thrill of Magic chess gameplay now with added features and content

Starting with the review, let’s dive into the gameplay experience of Magic Chess: Go Go. If you have played the Magic Chess mode before, or enjoy similar games in this genre, you will be hooked on this game right from the very beginning, with its highly enjoyable gameplay and great replayability value.

While the core gameplay remains the same as the Magic Chess mode in MLBB, it still is quite different in various regards, introducing several exciting new elements, such as Go Go Cards, new Commanders, the Commander Star Trail, additional heroes, and synergies. Just like before, here also you have to outsmart seven other players in chess-like battles and win.

As someone who has invested numerous hours into the original Magic Chess Mode, reaching very high-rank points and climbing the local leaderboard, I am very happy now that there is a different game altogether for that mode.

While some players are not liking all the synergies, the Commander Trail system and the new mechanics where Commanders have passive and active skills along with emblems, unlike MLBB’s Magic Chess mode where you can unlock and select from three abilities, I personally like this direction.

The gameplay becomes even more interesting and challenging with the introduction of a few more Commanders, heroes, and equipment. I have been having a great time running Lukas and 4 Guardian + 4 Marksmen + 2 Summoner + 2 Abyss lineup, almost winning every match with first place. The Chibi Commanders are very cute, adding an adorable charm to the game.

But what improves the gameplay experience for me is the introduction of Go Go Cards. They bring a new version of strategy and excitement to the game. The game features a variety of GoGo Cards, divided into Blue Cards, Purple Cards, and Orange Cards.

You get to choose between two cards during Creep rounds, with up to two refreshes, if you are not satisfied with the cards you got. But let me guarantee you that every card is impactful, providing unique advantages to your gameplay, that can shift the outcome of your match.

The game offers several game modes, catering to every type of players

Unlike MLBB’s Magic Chess mode, which was ranked only, Magic Chess: Go Go has introduced a variety of modes similar to MLBB, such as Classic mode for casual matches, Ranked mode for the competitive thrill, and Custom mode, to either compete with friends or for future tournaments, supporting up to 6x referees.

This is a great addition for the Magic Chess: Go Go fans, especially those who made the Magic Chess mode their main game, as it offers more options to enjoy their favorite gameplay.

With these modes, the game caters to every type of player, from casual players who simply love the game and want to play without any tension of dropping ranks, competitive players aiming to climb up the leaderboard, and those interested in future tournaments via Custom mode. Like MLBB, you won’t be rewarded anything, if you play the Custom mode with friends.

Charming Chibi characters, impressive visuals, and soothing audio enhance the experience

While the gameplay is highly addictive once you get the hang of it, the game’s soothing music takes it to the next level. The devs have paid great attention to all the sound effects during the matches, with the MLBB heroes making realistic sounds and providing remarks, adding a lifelike feel. This attention to detail should be praised.

And the audio is matched by equally impressive visuals. The overall visuals and aesthetic of the game are great, featuring charming character designs for the Commanders and a painting-style environment design for the chessboards, similar to the Magic Chess mode.

The Chibi versions of the MLBB heroes, reimagined as Commanders, are really adorable and I am sure they will charm others. Turning a game mode into a standalone game with such impressive visuals and audio deserves praise.

MCGG offers a clean and smooth UI similar to MLBB, with simple select and drag controls

The game features a very clean and intuitive user interface, like MLBB, allowing you to navigate through Events, Shop, Star Trail, Draw, the game modes, and other settings without feeling overcrowded or overwhelmed with ease.

The devs have done an excellent job by designing clean and visually appealing small icons, that align with the theme of the game, along with proper fonts that enhance the game’s overall aesthetics.

This simplicity is something I have always liked about MLBB as well. Unlike many other MOBA games, with very confusing clustered elements and features and everything right on the home screen, it wasn’t the case for MLBB, keeping things user-friendly, and Magic Chess: Go Go is following it perfectly.

You can enjoy free-to-play gameplay without spending on IAPs

The game also features an in-game shop, where you can purchase Commanders, including the latest additions like Lukas, Guinevere, Moskov, and Nana. Apart from the adorable characters, you can also buy various Commander skins, with Normal skins priced at 199 Diamonds and Special skins at 499 Diamonds.

The shop also includes four Special chessboards, each available for 899 Diamonds. However, I don’t find them that much valuable. There are also other useful items like Rename Cards and Chess Point Deluxe Pack, but you can enjoy the game even without buying any of these extra items.

As for the Go Go Pass, it doesn’t provide that much value, unless you want to collect the exclusive skins. When it comes to obtaining the Commanders, you can save up Chess Points and buy them or you get them from the Commander Star Trail, so you can enjoy the game without spending a penny.

Final Verdict

Magic Chess: Go Go is a very enjoyable and addictive game, although it can take some time to understand the basics. However, once you grasp the basics, you will have a fun time with this game. It offers an enhanced version of Magic Chess mode gameplay, packed with new features and content, that add more depth and strategic elements to the gameplay.

Having spent considerable time with the Magic Chess mode, I must say that the development team has done a great job with this game, although it hasn’t been released globally yet. As I have previously mentioned, I especially found the Go Go Cards and the addition of new Commanders and the Commander Star Trail system, very fun and interesting.

With its adorable Chibi versions of MLBB heroes and the introduction of engaging modes with Classic, Ranked, and Custom, Magic Chess: Go Go is a must-try if you are looking for a fun gameplay experience and enjoy this particular genre.
