Subway Surfers in 4k resolution is a treat to play
Ryan, a Youtuber by the channel name 12th Hour, is known for dropping out popular games, especially Fortnite, in higher resolutions by tweaking and rendering them and trying them out with high-end GPUs like the RTX series. To try something different, he chose Subway Surfers, and using CGI completely, got it working in 4k in just three days. So, the question is, how did he do it?
It began with the characters, of course. Subway Surfers since designed for mobile would be heavily out of proportion for a computer game, and Ryan, using subdivision surface modifier, a tool in Blender, a free open-source 3D computer graphics software.
He then modified the textures of the models using AI and upscaled the quality of the other images. This was important, so as to not have pixelation and spoil any scene. The next step was to create the game scene.
The second and third days were spent creating the game scene. Using Blender, again, he built the game model and then rendered it close to the scene we see in the game. Adding some snow to improve the scene, game items like coins, and obstacles. Tada! You have your characters ready, scene ready, what next? All set to play! It might have taken just three days to finish this, but that wasn’t easy as a 5-minute YouTube video.
As most of the technology is now on the rise given how the gaming scene has exploded over the past few years, it won’t be any surprise to see these experiments turn into reality, much to the joy of gamers.
