Free Fire: HQ Esports announced as the winner of Free Fire Asia Championship 2021

The winner took home $80,000 as the prize money

The biggest display of Free Fire esports powerhouses from Asia, the Free Fire Asia Championship 2021 has concluded with HQ Esports being declared as the winner. After a close margin battle among the 12 finalists, fans got to witness the Vietnamese giant taking the trophy home. For HQ Esports, this is the second major trophy this year. The grand event of the Asian stage of Free Fire was filled with intensity and amazement that fans enjoyed after a long time. HQ gathered 86 overall points, a close margin of 2 points from the runner-up GPX, on their way to the title.

The event was separated into two parts. 24 teams divided into two groups participated in the play-ins stage and 5 of them managed to move to the finals, joining seven directly invited teams. A total of 7 matches were played in the finals.

HQ started the first match by picking up a BOOYAH, a champion-like start indeed. The team was consistent till the fifth match where they made two more BOOYAHS with a lot of kills. But things get intense after the champion team faced early elimination in the last two matches and thus, HQ’s fate was at stake and to be decided based on the other team’s performance.

CGGG took the limelight by showing great gameplay but finished being third where GPX Esports had a great possibility to come up as the winner but Team Elite broke their heart as the team won the last round. Though TE couldn’t make it to the top five, they’ve done the damage to GPX on one hand, and gifted the trophy to HQ on the other.

Prize pool

The event featured a massive $400K prize pool. Being the champion, HQ Esports has got a share of $80,000. Moreover, the runner-up team, GPX Esports got $50,000, and the third-placed team, CGGG has taken $30,000 home. MOMO from CGGG became MVP of the event and was awarded $5,000.

Final Thoughts

Asia Championship 2021 started on November 20 and concluded on the 28th. 31 teams from seven regions of Asia fought for the share of a massive $400k prize pool. The online event is organized by Garena, the creator of the game. Winning the major once again proved that HQ is one of the best teams in the Free Fire esports arena.
