MOONTON Games and IO ESPORTS have collaboratively launched the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Academy League Malaysia (MAL MY). Serving as the developmental segment within Malaysia’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports league structure, MAL MY follows the MLBB Professional League (MPL) Malaysia. Its objective is to cultivate the esports potential within the country, offering a structured and competitive avenue for promising young players to enter the professional esports realm.
MOONTON Games launched MAL MY to enhance esports talent pipeline
The MAL MY serves as a pivotal link between grassroots and national-level esports within its region. It aims to consolidate the top-tier community tournaments by inviting their strongest contenders to compete for coveted spots in MPL Malaysia, the pinnacle of national MLBB competitive gaming.
This initiative introduces a promotion and relegation system between MAL MY and MPL Malaysia, allowing developmental league teams to vie for qualification into MPL Malaysia Season 14, scheduled for the latter part of 2024. In its inaugural season, MAL MY Season 1 will mirror the tournament structure of MPL Malaysia, unfolding across three stages: Open Qualifiers in February, Regular Season in March, and culminating in the Playoffs in May.
The MAL MY will provide young players with more structured support, a more competitive environment, and most importantly, a clearer path to professionalism. It will also empower our third-party partners and the thriving esports ecosystem in Malaysia by allowing everyone to foster closer ties with one another.

This league stands as the publisher’s third developmental platform, following the successful launch of MLBB Development League (MDL) Philippines in 2023 and MDL Indonesia in 2020.
