How PUBG Mobile’s Hero’s Crown mode could save its casual gaming scene

The ultimate casual comeback

Story Highlights
  • The new Hero's Crown Mode in PUBG Mobile can finally initiate the revival of the game.
  • Multiple Trial Challenges and main-event locations allow players to make strategic decisions according to the circumstances.
  • The return of the Nimbus Islands has played a crucial role in the success of the new themed mode.

Apart from the competitive Esports scenario of PUBG Mobile, the biggest mobile battle royale title has been witnessing a slow but consistent downward spiral in the casual gaming section, in the conventional classic modes, to be exact. But, in the 4.4 version update, things might change with the introduction of the themed mode named the Hero’s Crown.

According to me, PUBG Mobile has ticked all the boxes in a long time to bring a near-perfect themed mode, featuring all the elements that can make a mode massively enjoyable among casual players and can bring new players into the game. In this article, I will be sharing my two cents on how the brand new Hero’s Crown mode could be a game-changer for PUBG Mobile, quite literally.

PUBG Mobile Hero’s Crown Mode: The ingredients that made the perfect broth

In the previous version updates, PUBG Mobile had introduced many features and elements in the themed modes to make it exciting and popular among players, such as special powers in the Evolving Universe mode or plant-inspired items in the Primewood Genesis mode.

But every time, it lacked something. This time, I believe that PUBG Mobile has finally eliminated all the shortcomings and gathered all the ingredients that make a mode near-perfect. Here, I will discuss the factors that are playing a crucial role in the making of a fan-favourite themed game mode.

Comeback of the Nimbus Islands

We had come across the concept of the Nimbus Islands for the first time in late 2021, when they collaborated with the League of Legends: Arcane series to introduce the Mirror World-themed mode. Back then, it was an absolute hit due to the free extra life chance (recall) and the opportunity to get more finishes. In the 4.4 version update, PUBG Mobile has followed the same path and introduced the Crown Abode mini-game mode.

In this mode, the top 4 squads in that particular match will get a chance to travel to a Nimbus Island situated high in the sky to fight, and the winner will have a chance to fight and hire the artificially intelligent boss, The Helios, as their companion. The arrival of the Crown Abode allows us to fetch more finishes in Nimbus Island and improve our statistics. With the inclusion of items like the Sun Chariot and the interactive boss fight with Helios, it has already become the top feature of the PUBG Mobile Hero’s Crown Mode.

Multiple main-event locations make it less confusing

I can’t recall the last time I saw 4 different main-event locations or hot-drops in a themed mode. Yes, you read it right. The Hero’s Crown Mode in PUBG Mobile has a total of 4 hot drops scattered around the map in different locations. These locations are: Mylta, Ferry Pier, Boatyard, and Yasnaya Polyana.

If you have an average flight path or you want to land in a location with fewer enemies, you can do that in this themed mode thanks to the large number of main-event locations. Each of these hot drops contains a great amount of supplies, and your whole squad can get a good number of weapons and utilities by landing in these locations.

PUBG Mobile also made sure that we get a nostalgic feeling in these locations, as these have a resemblance to the architecture of the Ocean Odyssey themed mode in the version 3.3 update. That themed mode was also very popular among the players thanks to its distinct and unique aesthetics and gameplay.

Trial Challenges add an extra competitive rush

PUBG Mobile Hero’s Crown mode has a total of 5 Greek mythology-themed Trial Challenges. These trials help you to get great amount of supplies, special powers, and rewards. By completing these trial challenges, you can get Glory Points, which is necessary to enter the Crown Abode mode in the Nimbus Islands. These Trial challenges are: Gryphon Trial, Prometheus’ Trial, Spartan’s Trial, Achilles’ Trial, and Icarus’ Trial.

Previously, we had two Trial Challenges in PUBG Mobile – Wish Come True in the PUBG Mobile x Dragon Ball Z themed mode and Trial of Fury in the Ocean Odyssey themed mode. Both of the Trials were very popular due to their competitive and thrilling nature. This time, with the addition of multiple Trials, I believe many older players will come back to the game to have the feeling of the good old days.

Unique powers are making the mode more exciting

In a themed game mode, special in-game powers play a crucial role in the dynamics of the overall gameplay. In the PUBG Mobile Hero’s Crown Mode, we have special abilities and powers such as the Wax Wings and the Battle Flag. These special elements allow us to get special abilities like flight and extra health.

These powers enable players to have an advantage in the fights. You can easily overpower an enemy using the Battle Flag or retreat from a place when things go south. Overall, special powers make the gameplay more dynamic and enjoyable. Otherwise, it will just be another typical battle royale game.

Final Thoughts

After playing the new Hero’s Crown Game Mode for more than 30 hours, I can certainly say that this themed mode has the potential to become the most popular and played mode in PUBG Mobile. It has all the factors that make a themed mode special and can attract players. However, it’s a responsibility for the developers to handle the massive load on the servers, as many players are complaining about unstable connections and network fluctuations.

They will also have to make sure that they strictly keep the cheaters away, as they can seriously hamper the playing experience. That being said, I am very optimistic about the Hero’s Crown Mode and can’t wait to play more to explore more things in this mode and share with you.
