PUBG Mobile Esports: Tencent introduces Philippines as a PMPL region

Some fans consider it to be an unwise decision!

In an announcement made by the official authorities of PUBG Mobile in the Philippines, it has been revealed that the country will be introduced as the third region in PMPL MYSG (Malaysia-Singapore) and will henceforth be known as PMPL MY/SG/PH. The said change will be effective in the coming year of 2022 from PMPL Season 5 onwards. You can check the official announcement here.

PUBG Mobile Esports introducing Philippines in PMPL

Although it is understandable that this move by Tencent and PUBG Mobile Esports is an attempt at making its esports scene even more inclusive and diverse, the fans have come with some strong counterarguments as well. According to them, even though the tournament is officially inclusive of Malaysia and Singapore, hence MYSG, there was not a single representative of Singapore in the latest edition of PMPL, with all the players in the lobby being Malaysian.

This has provided room for the fans to demand that Singapore be demoted from the regional PMPL and instead made a wildcard region. Thus, the addition of a third country when the tournament is already completely one-sided in favor of Malaysia has been deemed a rather unwise decision.

Fans urge for a standalone PMPL for Malaysia

Among these lists of counter-arguments, the most rational of them all is to make a standalone PMPL solely for Malaysia, like their Indonesian counterpart, given that Malaysia as a region has proved a one-sided dominance in their respective PMPL and to include all other countries in a “Rest of SEA” PMPL which would be just fair given the representation from the countries.

Players can already start registering for PMPL MY/SG/PH qualifiers

As per the official post by PUBG Mobile Philippines, registrations for the qualifiers to PMPL MY/SG/PH will be open from 31st December 2021 onwards. The top 1 team in the qualifiers will then attain a slot to play in the PMPL, which is the ticket to PMGC, the most prestigious tournament in the PUBG Mobile esports scene.
