FIFA Mobile 22: Reviewing the UTOTS Reserve Players

Choose only from the best players!

UTOTS is finally here in FIFA Mobile 22 with both the Starter and the Reserve Players. One of the biggest events of every FIFA Mobile, Team of the Season, always ends with the highly-awaited Ultimate section. A squad of the best performing players from the top 5 leagues in Europe is chosen each year and each player is given an enhanced UTOTS version of the regular TOTS variants.

The format for UTOTS varies each year but the main idea is pretty much the same. This year, we’ve got 11 UTOTS Starters and 13 UTOTS Reserves. The proper top-end of the list has cards that require a bit of real cash to unlock. The lower end of the UTOTS Starters are available to free-to-play players but will require a bit more grinding to claim. All the UTOTS Reserves are claimable for regular players and these are usually the more popular choices.

In this article, we will be looking at the UTOTS Reserves in particular. These guys are all 98 overall and vary in positions and playstyle. Not much separates the 13 cards and this could be one of the biggest decisions of this FM season. A 98-rated card is on offer and it’s crucial we pick the correct one.

It all depends on what you need for your team, To help out, we’ve analyzed each of the UTOTS Reserves in great detail, looking at their playstyles and how to get the best out of them in-game. Hopefully, this helps identify which cards best suit your set-up, and which UTOTS Reserve you should pick to spend those hard-earned currencies. All those calculations. All that time. All that effort. It all comes down to this. Choose wisely!

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve Players

Heung-Min Son (LM)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Short Passing

Overview

Son scored twice on the last day of the Premier League to come level with Mo Salah for the Golden Boot. He scored 23 times, including no penalties, and set up a further 7 goals for his teammates. The winger is known as one of the toughest attackers to play against in the league, and his movement and finishing have proven to be devastating.

VSA

This card is an instant success for VSA, mainly due to its insane goalscoring ability. This guy can score from literally anywhere, with either foot, with power shots, or clean finesses – he’s the complete package when it comes to scoring. Above all that, he dribbles really smoothly and has a solid technical base.

FM Stats UTOTS Son FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve

H2H

In addition to his goal-scoring, Son has the fluid and rapid movement to be a deadly player for H2H as well. The fact that he can take the ball on both feet as well just tops it off. Son is a proper wide-forward type player – you will want him driving into the box as often as possible. His attacking skillset makes him a fantastic option for the LM position.

Domenico Berardi (RM)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Long Shots

Overview

Berardi had another fantastic season with the Italian outlet, Sassuolo. He hit the back of the net on 15 occasions and set up another 14 goals for his teammates. This was Berardi’s 5th time hitting double digits for goals, a symbol of his consistency over the years. The Italian international came up from Sassuolo’s youth system and has since gone on to make over 300 appearances.

VSA

This is a deadly attacker for VSA since it has basically everything required. Berardi has superb movement, with smooth turns and great bursts of speed. His shots, particularly the finesse shots, are very well placed and powerful. There are few wide midfielders around that can consistently fire powerful long-range hits like Berardi. Arguably, a completely weak foot would be nice but regardless, this is a fantastic card for VSA.

FM Stats UTOTS Berardi FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve

H2H

Berardi is a versatile attacker for H2H since he is great in multiple departments. His movement and shooting ability are both top-level of course, but this guy can also create play as well as he can finish it. Berardi has a great passing range and can play a killer through the ball too. He’s good enough to suit multiple playstyles, from being a direct goal-scoring winger to a wide playmaker. This could well be the best RM in the game!

Joao Cancelo (LB)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Pace

Overview

Cancelo was an important player behind Manchester City‘s title charge. He made 50 appearances for his team in all competitions, creating 10 goals and popping another 3 in himself. The Portuguese can play as a wingback on either side and is known for his ball control and passing ability.

VSA

Cancelo doesn’t pop up often as a defender in VSA, but when he does, he’s actually quite decent. He can be stunned, but he has good timing with his tackles and shouldn’t be slept on completely. Cancelo’s speed is the most annoying factor though, he can stick to attackers well and track runs. All in all, though, Cancelo is an attacking fullback and that’s more seen in H2H.

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

For those that have used Cancelo’s popular TOTY or TOTS variants, this is essentially the same thing but enhanced and more effective. Cancelo is a very fluid dribbler, with tons of pace and an excellent passing range. He is deadly around the box in a different way to most LBs, as he is right-footed. That allows him to cut in and create a play or even take a shot. Overall, this is a safe purchase that instantly takes that position up a few levels.

Joshua Kimmich (CDM)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Long Passing

Overview

The force of Bayern Munich would not be the same without Kimmich in the midfield. The 27-year-old played 39 times for his side, tallying 3 goals and 12 assists in that time. Kimmich is well-known for his ability to orchestrate play with his passes, and his deadly control over set-pieces.

VSA

Kimmich has a relatively small presence on the pitch but is still a formidable defender in VSA. His tackles are constantly accurate and he has really quick reactions to skill moves. Kimmich can use his strength to throw off attackers and sometimes even just knock the ball off them from behind. He’s always there to cut off passes and is just a general pain for the attack. This is a really solid CDM option for this mode.

 FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

Kimmich is a complete midfielder and is running pretty much everywhere for 90 minutes. Defensively, he is really solid, as explained in the previous section. Furthermore, he feels agile and quick with the ball, and his passing range is just something else. Kimmich can create play with incisive through balls but can also distribute long-range with exceptional accuracy.

Because of how much this guy can run, he is the perfect fit for the box-to-box midfielder role. He’ll push forward in attack but will also rush back to clean up in defense. Kimmich has the skills to play as a line CDM too, but his tendency to push up in the attack may leave gaps in midfield which isn’t ideal.

Thibaut Courtois (GK)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Number 1

Overview

Courtois ensured he ended the season on an absolute high with a sensational MOTM performance in the UCL final. Throughout Real Madrid‘s Champions League run, and in the league as well, Courtois made countless key saves to keep his team in the game. He ended the campaign with 16 clean sheets, with only 1 other keeper in Spain’s top division bettering that tally.

VSA

There weren’t really high hopes for this card, considering it’s a goalkeeper. In this season of FIFA Mobile, goalkeepers are a weird concept. A well-taken shot will probably go in regardless of who is there to save it. With that said, there isn’t that much point in spending big on a card that probably does as good a job as a much cheaper alternative. The same goes for Courtois – he’s a decent keeper but he is definitely not worth that huge price tag.

FM Stats UTOTS Courtois FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

Courtois’ shot-stopping is nothing special in H2H either. However, he is a tall GK that visibly looks big on the pitch. His distribution is fairly decent as well. Obviously, that isn’t enough to justify such a price tag, and that’s why this card was a bit of a disappointment.

Kalidou Koulibaly (CB)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Defending

Overview

Koulibaly had a strong spell with Napoli, helping them to a 3rd place finish in the Serie A last season. He made 27 starts for the Italian outlet, scoring 3 and assisting 3 for his teammates. Thanks to his defensive contributions, Napoli managed to keep an impressive 16 clean sheets in total, which only 1 other team in the league could beat. The Senegalese international is known to be a powerful and physical center-back respected highly in Europe.

VSA

Koulibaly is a big and powerful defender and because of his UTOTS status, he is naturally expected to be a tough player to get past. He rarely ever gets stunned and sticks to the attacker ver well. Koulibaly has the strength to push through with tackles and force heavy touches. In general, he is a really strong defender to have on the team.

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

Koulibaly’s excellent defensive abilities make him a safe addition to the H2H team. In addition, he also has a decent pace to catch up with opposition attackers. Koulibaly can function well in either a back three or a back two to a high standard. Due to his presence both on the ground and in the air, Koulibaly is best used in the middle of a back three. His ball-playing isn’t a standout department, so for a back-two, Koulibaly’s ideal partner would be a modern ball-playing CB.

Luka Modric (CM)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Vision

Overview

Real Madrid had arguably the most successful season, winning the domestic title and the Champions League. This was Modric’s 10th year in the La Liga, and yet again, he was a key driving force in Real Madrid’s title charges. The Croatian scored twice and added 8 assists in 28 league appearances, whilst adding another 4 assists in 13 UCL appearances. As an important midfield asset to the title-winning team, Modric fully deserves a place in the UTOTS.

VSA

Unlike with most CMs, you will want Modric to join the attack for VSA. He’s got an absolutely lethal shot and can score well from the range too. In addition, Modric feels brilliant on the ball and turns so quickly. That extra 5* weak foot is just the cherry-on-top for what is already a really great card.

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

UTOTS Modric fairs just as well in H2H as in VSA. Dribbling-wise, he is obviously superb, and his control in especially tight spaces comes in handy often. Modric has a fantastic passing range, as well as an eye for a killer pass. If that’s not enough, Modric can go on his own too – his shots both inside and outside the box are unstoppable. Similar to in real life, Modric’s best role would be as a number 8 in a midfield 3, where he can cause absolute havoc without having to worry about defending too much.

Wissam Ben Yedder (ST)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Shooting

Overview

Ben Yedder was one of the best strikers in French club football last term. He fired 25 goals and assisted a further 5 in just 29 league starts for AS Monaco. This has been a season to remember in particular for Ben Yedder, who set a personal record for the most domestic goal contributions.

VSA

This card has exactly what is required from a striker, and suits VSA to a tee. Ben Yedder’s goalscoring is of course the highlight. He can score from anywhere on the pitch, with great power and curve. On top of that, he can go off both feet too. In addition, Ben Yedder is an excellent dribbler and has a very smooth turn. He is pretty much the complete package for a striker in this mode and will be a guaranteed success, without a doubt.

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

Ben Yedder’s fantastic shooting and dribbling abilities make him a handful for opposition defenders. That’s not all he can do though, he has some decent playmaking skills as well, particularly his short through balls which are surprisingly very effective.

Ben Yedder also has a fair chunk of pace to break through the lines, and has an aerial dominance too, despite being quite short in nature. This is a very versatile striker, that excels in multiple departments and he can easily slot into pretty much any setup. For those that like a striker partnership, Ben Yedder is best partnered with a striker that has a big visual presence (tall and heavyweight).

Ruben Dias (CB)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Tackling

Overview

Dias only managed to start 27 out of 38 games in the Premier League this season, due to injury. However, he was an important player whenever he played, bringing leadership and stability to the back line. In addition, Dias also bagged 2 goals and a further 4 assists – the most goal contributions in a league season in his senior career.

VSA

For an UTOTS standard defender, Dias is expected to be at his best, and he is very good. He is almost impossible to stun and can dominate in both ground and aerial duels. Dias is the kind of guy an attacker notices and dribbles away from, and that’s very useful in VSA. All in all, this is a great defender to have.

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

Dias’ defending from VSA transfers over well to H2H. He is a formidable defender and can keep the defence secure for basically the whole match. Dias also has a decent pace to move around, which allows him to slot in comfortably to the sides of a back three. Whilst it isn’t his speciality, Dias is quite decent at playing out from the back. He can get satisfying power on his passes and they can accurately cut through into midfield. This card is complete in multiple aspects and should be a quality addition to the team.

Rafael Leao (LW)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Agility

Overview

Leao enjoyed his breakout season last year, after putting in a series of impressive performances. He totaled 11 goals and 8 assists in 34 league appearances, helping AC Milan to the Scudetto. The 23-year-old has grown in popularity and is attracting interest from several top European clubs. He has a bright career ahead of him and it is exciting to see what he goes on to do.

VSA

What a card this is. 5* weak foot, incredible finishing, fluid movement, Leao has it all. He has that burst of speed and the sharp turn, which makes him so much fun to use. Leao’s shots are deadly both inside and outside the box and he can take it on both feet too. On top of that, Leao has some solid strength to power through with his dribbles. This is a complete package and really aren’t any complaints about this mode.

FM Stats UTOTS Rafael Leao FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

One of the issues with TOTS Rafael Leao was his low stamina. This has been bumped up for the UTOTS version and we’ve now got a really deadly LW card. Leao is outrageously fast and can pull a good shot off from anywhere inside the final 3rd. Leao’s playmaking skills aren’t as good as the rest, so this is more of a direct, goal-scoring winger. If that’s what you’re after, then this card is perfect.

Aurelien Tchouameni (CDM)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Holding

Overview

Tchouameni made 50 appearances in all competitions for Monaco, in what became the season that established him as one of the biggest talents in Europe. Just recently, the defensive midfielder was announced as Real Madrid’s new Summer signing. The Spanish giants paid close to €100 million according to reports – making this the team’s 4th most expensive signing of all time.

VSA

Tchouameni is pretty much an extra defender on the occasions when he shows up in VSA. He is fairly difficult to stun and has quick reactions to chase down the attackers. His tackles are timed well and his strength clearly shows in-game. This is a surprise success since CDMs don’t usually make an impact that much in this mode.

FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

In addition to his great defensive skillset, Tchouameni excels in passing and even dribbling too. He feels really smooth on the ball and turns quickly under pressure. Tchouameni’s ability to pick out a pass at any range is second to none and comes in handy often for H2H.

This card’s best role would be as a lone 6, sitting slightly above the defense and distributing passes around the pitch. His high attacking work rate means he does make runs forward, leaving the DM space exposed. However, he mostly gets back to his position and this isn’t really something to worry about.

Jude Bellingham (CM)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Interceptions

Overview

Bellingham was a surprise to see here, but he certainly had a stellar campaign with Borussia Dortmund, and it’s easy to forget that this guy is literally just 18 years old. He bagged 3 goals and assisted a further 8 for his teammates last season. Goal contributions aren’t everything for Bellingham’s game though, the English wunderkind is well known for his technical ability which has allowed his team to control games.

VSA

Bellingham shows up sometimes on VSA chances. He isn’t a perfect finisher, he can still hit a few decent shots but he isn’t someone to rely on in this aspect. Bellingham’s smooth dribbling helps carry through the momentum in chances, which is important for this mode. Furthermore, the quality of his passes also comes in handy now and then. Other than that, there isn’t much this card can really do here.

 FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

This card looks very well-rounded stats-wise, and that shows in-game. Bellingham is a reliable player for all stages of a game, from attacking the opposition box to defending his own. He has great strength to win the ball back and his positioning often helps in intersecting passes. Whilst with the ball, Bellingham is still solid, with fantastic movement and an eye for a killer pass. Because of his balanced nature, Bellingham can slot into any midfield set-up.

Lucas Paqueta (CAM)

  • Overall: 98
  • Requirement: 225 UTOTS Points
  • Skill Boost: Dribbling

Overview

Admittedly, Paqueta was an expected addition to the FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve, but there’s no doubt, that he had an impressive season to back that selection. The Brazilian registered 9 goals and 6 assists for the French outlet, Olympique Lyon. He featured in almost every game for his team and was a consistent performer. At just 24 years old, he still has room to develop and could end up at a top European club sometime soon as well.

VSA

CAMs are often a deadly position for VSA, and this card is a great example of why. Paqueta has a lethal left foot and can hit shots on par with some top striker cards in FIFA Mobile. He is a fantastic dribbler and feels great to use in-game. Paqueta can maneuver through defenses with just his touches, and that is incredibly satisfying to do. All things considered, this is a brilliant card for VSA.

FM Stats UTOTS Paqueta FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve
Image via Electronic Arts

H2H

Paqueta’s goal-scoring ability essentially makes him a second striker in H2H. That’s not all though, this card can create play as well as he can make it. Paqueta’s passes, particularly the through balls, are a thing of beauty and can slice through defenders with ease.

An unexpected feature is this card’s strength, he can shake attackers quite well and win the ball back high up the pitch. The only possible drawback is pace, Paqueta doesn’t have that explosiveness in his dribbles. The best role for Paqueta would be as a second striker, sitting behind the main number 9.

Choosing from the best UTOTS Reserve Players in FIFA Mobile 22

From 13 options, picking 1 is never going to be easy. Almost all the cards are top quality, so digging for the best one isn’t a successful plan either. Perhaps you may have a preference, for example, Real Madrid fans will likely be drawn towards FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve Modric, or new signing Tchouameni.

Aside from that, the best way to choose which FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve card to claim is by taking a look at the current team. Maybe that right central-midfielder has been misplacing passes recently, or the left-winger isn’t quick enough. If there’s a card in the starting XI that has been underperforming, or is lower overall than the rest of the team, maybe it’s time to upgrade on them.

Identifying that weak position then leads to the FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve choice. In some cases, there are multiple FIFA Mobile 22 UTOTS Reserve cards for a position. Below, we look at those situations and compare the options, detailing what exactly each card specializes in, and which playstyles they suit.

1. Centre-Back (CB) – Dias vs Koulibay

Both CBs are quite similar in nature. It’s difficult to say which is better at defending, as both are great in that aspect. What separates them is their H2H playstyles. Dias is better at bringing the ball out from the back with his short and long-range passes in comparison to Koulibaly. On the flip side, Koulibaly tops Dias in terms of pace. For those that like to play from the back, Dias is the ideal CB option. For others, Koulibaly is the better pick due to his increased speed off the ball.

2. Defensive Midfielder (CDM) – Tchouameni vs Kimmich

Tchouameni and Kimmich are both quite well-rounded CDMs but what separates them is their playstyles. Kimmich is more of a box-to-box type midfielder, whilst Tchouameni’s physicality and build make him a better fit for the lone 6 roles. Both players can interchange in either role though since they have that versatility to do so. For those looking for a more physical CDM, Tchouameni is a better fit. Kimmich is better suited to those that play a double pivot in H2H, or those that just want their CDMs to push forward more often.

3. Centre-Half (CM) – Modric vs Bellingham

Solely for VSA, Modric is a much better fit due to his goal-scoring ability. For H2H, it’s slightly different. Modric is a really good attacking CM, who excels going forward, though defensively, he isn’t reliable. On the other hand, Bellingham is a well-rounded CM who is good going forward and defending. However, he doesn’t specialize in a particular aspect like Modric.

In a three-man midfield, Modric would be a better fit on either side, due to his attacking skill-set. Cards in this role as good as UTOTS Modric are difficult to find. In a two-man midfield, Bellingham is arguably the better pick because of his defensive stability, though Modric could work here as well if partnered with a defensive player.
