- Clash of Clans new system allows to time attacks for easier 3-star wins in Ranked mode.
- Ranked defence cycle targets players who haven't yet been attacked that round.
With the new Ranked Battles introduced in the October 2025 Clash of Clans update, players have been diving deep into understanding how matchmaking works. Many players will surely be aiming to get as many as 40 Trophies to earn every Ranked battle with a 3-Star, and surely, who wouldn’t?
While Supercell’s design aims to make things fair for everyone, one Reddit user, u/Funny_Zucchini_7586, recently uncovered an interesting detail that could help us secure easier 3-star wins. Let’s break it down.
Clash of Clans Ranked Tournaments explained and how to plan your attacks
In the Ranked system, every player is placed into a group of 100 competitors within the same league tier as a Tournament. Each player receives an equal number of defensive opportunities, meaning, over time, everyone in that group will be attacked roughly the same number of times.
Now this is where we “outsmart” the system. As observed, when you go for a ranked battle, the player you face when attacking is usually one who hasn’t yet received their current “defence” in that ongoing cycle.

So, when the defence counter shows that most top players have already received their quota of defences, the matchmaking system starts assigning attacks to those lower in the rankings who haven’t yet been attacked in that round.
Here’s where it gets clever. The post explains that if you wait until the defence cycle reaches the bottom of your league (positions 90 to 100), you’re more likely to be matched against weaker opponents. Of course, they might be good bases, but compared to others in the league, they are surely the weakest.

At that stage, when you hit the “Attack” button, the matchmaking almost guarantees a base from that bottom part of the bases, giving you a much better shot at securing a full 3-star victory and earning maximum trophies.
