Top Goal: Soccer Champion Squad Management Guide with Tips

Easy handling your players!

Top Goal Soccer Champion is an online football game from Nordeus, the developers of the popular football management game Top Eleven: Be A Football Manager where you can build your ultimate team, compete in PvP matches, and dominate the leaderboards. As I mentioned PvP, making a perfect team is not that easy, but Squad Management is something that you should focus on to progress, so on the same front, here’s my detailed guide on how to make the best of your squad in Top Goal: Soccer Champion.

Squad Management Basics in Top Goal

When you start the game, the first thing you’ll notice is the Squad section. This is where you manage everything about your team, be it setting lineups, adjusting tactics, and selecting formations. Mixing and matching players to find the best combination is key, so understanding this section early on will help you build a strong and balanced squad.

Before getting into the details, it’s important to know that your starting XI consists of 11 players, and once a match begins, no substitutions can be made. This makes selecting your strongest lineup crucial. On the top right side of the screen, you’ll find your squad’s OVR (Overall Rating), which represents the average quality of your starting XI. A higher OVR generally means a stronger team, so keep an eye on it when setting up your squad.

Players, Roles, and Attributes

Understanding your players is crucial in a football game. While knowing their basic positions is a good start, diving deeper into their roles, strengths, and playstyles can make a big difference. For example, you should know the difference between CAM and RM. The more you understand each player’s abilities, the better you can build a balanced team.

Clicking on a player opens their overview section, where you’ll find detailed stats and attributes. There are three pages here: Overview, Attributes, and On Fire. This screen includes key information like their overall rating, strengths, and form.

The main page is an overview, which displays height, weight, and dominant foot. You can also check event stats, such as matches played, goals, and assists for strikers, or clean sheets for goalkeepers. It’s a great way to track performance but it isn’t much of a difference maker. The next screen is attributes, in which you can notice the attributes of every player to understand their statistics and what they excel at.

On Fire section is up next separately. In the training part which is shown in every player page, you get two options here, Train and Rank Up. The Training system lets you invest XP to improve a player until they reach their threshold. Once they hit the limit, you can use the Rank Up option to boost their OVR to the next level.

On Fire feature in Top Goal

This might be one of the more confusing aspects of the game. Below your team’s OVR, you’ll see an On Fire indicator in orange, and you can also find this section in the player overview. Simply put, the On Fire feature boosts your team’s Overall Rating (OVR) by enhancing individual player stats and creating stronger links between teammates.

Squad On Fire

  • Your Squad On Fire value is the total of your starting players’ On Fire points. The higher this value, the better your team performs.
  • You can link On Fire players by positioning them close to each other. Every successful link adds +1 On Fire to each connected player.
  • For every 10 Team On Fire points, your team gains +1 OVR.

Player On Fire

  • On Fire players get a +1 boost to all their stats, making them more effective on the field.
  • You can activate On Fire by completing a player’s training goals which are found in the player screen’s On Fire section. For example, a striker will have training goals to reach certain ratings in Dribbling, Passing, and Shooting.
  • Any newly acquired player automatically starts On Fire, so you can take advantage of their boost immediately.

Team Tactics and Training Explained in Top Goal

When you click on the Manage section, you’ll see the Subs and Tactics options. Clicking on Tactics will take you to different formations, making it easy to adjust your team’s playstyle. There are three main tactical approaches namely Wing Play, Possession, and Mixed.

  • Wing Play: Focuses on using the flanks, with wingers and full-backs delivering crosses into the box. If you have higher-rated wingers, use this.
  • Possession: Emphasizes short passes and control, keeping the ball to build up play patiently. If you have good CAM and ST players, use this.
  • Mixed: A balanced approach that blends both wing play and possession.

My suggestion is on how you play. Since this is a game where there isn’t a D-Pad to control player movements, possession is a good style of play as players will be close to each other and you can pass and score goals easily.

Training Center and Inventory

Training Center explained

Once everything is set, you need to improve the existing rating and skills of players. Here’s where Training plays a part. The Training Center is where you improve your players by increasing their stats and overall rating. It has two main training systems: XP Training and Skill Training.

XP Training allows you to use different types of XP to level up players. General XP can be used for any player, while Attack XP, Midfield XP, and Defense XP are specific to their respective positions. Once a player reaches their XP limit, you can rank them up to boost their OVR.

Skill Training, on the other hand, focuses on upgrading specific attributes like shooting, positioning, passing, speed, and stamina. These upgrades enhance a player’s performance on the field, and using 10 Skill Training will also contribute to ranking up their OVR. However, training resources have a cap, so it’s important to use them efficiently to maximize your team’s growth.

Inventory and Locker Room

The Locker Room is where you manage your inventory, including boots, jerseys, and emblems. Each item provides stat boosts that enhance your players’ performance on the field. In the Boots section, different pairs of boots offer attribute boosts depending on what shoe you select. Each boot has a specific combination of stat increases, represented by icons.

For example, some boots may focus more on speed and agility, while others provide a balanced mix of attack and defense. Make sure to use them boots as soon as the slots are full because any extra you gain will be overlapped.
