UEFA EURO 2020 Fantasy Matchday 3: The complete analysis

The final group stage games are here...

The last Matchday of the Euros 2020 Group Stage is here, and this is where teams begin to build different mindsets to approach their next match. For some, this is just another game, making no difference to whether they go through to the knockouts. For others, this is the last chance to find a way into the qualifying positions in their respective groups. In this article, we have analyzed each team’s focus during UEFA EURO 2020 Fantasy Matchday 3, and how they will take on their next fixture.

This will not only help deduce the mentality of the team but also hint at the possible lineups since we could see many high-value players being rested for this week. Along with each analysis, a couple of players have been mentioned, which you can consider for your Euros Fantasy limitless or wildcard squads. Although not confirmed, these predictions are calculated risks and players should aim to hold at least a couple of thoroughly researched differentials for their squads.

Note: Only the basic circumstances of wins and losses are acknowledged in this analysis. They may not cover all potential examples, such as point deductions or match postponements/cancellations. Also note that teams have the chance to qualify from 3rd place too, although those have not been included in this calculation.

Group A

Italy

Italy sits at the top of their group with a comfortable 6 goals in 2 games. There’s little catching them now as they are one of the 3 teams already through to the knockouts. They will also finish at the top of the group, as long as they don’t lose their next match. Expect a rotating lineup, as many starters may get rested in preparation for the knockouts. Despite already being through, it would not be surprising to see Italy hit hard to confirm the 1st place finish and get 3 wins in 3 games too.

Italy and Wales play as the first match for MD3, which means the lineups will be available before the deadline. Keep an eye out for them to see who the rotated players will be. Some players expected to be given a run-out is

  • Chiesa (7 million) – The Juventus midfielder played his part in the qualifying campaign with 6 appearances, contributing 1 goal and 3 assists

and possibly even Belotti (8 million), the latter could prove to be a fantastic differential. You may also want to move off players like Insigne and Immobile who will likely be rested and will also release funds for you Keep it in min

Wales

Wales has one of the toughest deciding fixtures in MD3, as they face Italy. To qualify for the knockouts, they will need to at least hold out for a draw, but will also go through if Switzerland fails to get 3 points. Of course, the Welsh players will only be able to focus on their own game and so a draw is what they will be fighting for.

It is expected to see Wales playing quite defensively, and then attempting to hit on the counter-attack against Italy, in order to get the best result.

  • Bale (9.5 million) – could be a good differential, as he has the pace to bring Wales forward and possibly even pull a goal/assist, given his performances against Turkey. If you are looking to play a limitless or wildcard chip before the Round of 16, Bale could make a good pick. Other than that, most Welsh players aren’t worth going for, since the fixture is quite difficult.

Switzerland

This is a very good fixture for the Swiss side since Turkey has been very underwhelming this campaign, failing to get a single point. For Switzerland to have any chance to guarantee a Top 2 finish, they must win and hope that Wales loses. After, that it would be on goal difference, so Switzerland will want to score as many goals as possible. Expect a goal-fest in this match

  • Embolo (8 million) – Embolo is a very promising pick as he is one of the main strikers for Switzerland. He has already tallied up 7 points so far and is a very good differential too. This is a highly recommended striker to have in your team. He has had created 3 big chances along with a goal in the last two group stage games for his side
  • Ricardo Rodriguez (5.5 million) – The left-back has created 4 chances so far, the joint-most among teammates, they need goals and are playing against a Turkey side who are without a goal so far.
  • Xherdan Shaqiri (7 million) – Besides sharing penalty duties with Rodriguez, the pair rank joint top for chance creation in the team with 4.

Group B

Belgium

Belgium is through to the next round already and is one of the 3 teams to do so. They will also be able to top the group as long as they get a draw, which against a team like Finland, doesn’t seem too difficult. They will likely be heavily rotated, and so expect players like Lukaku to be rested for the knockouts.

This is such a good fixture to target, but it doesn’t matter to Belgium much at all. You could pick up

  • De Bruyne (10.5 million) – After making a return from the injury, he helped Belgium to come from behind against Denmark with a goal and an assist. Their opponent Finland has conceded 9 shots so far and needless to say, KDB is a must for this match.
  • Eden Hazard (10 million) – Roberto Martinez has confirmed Hazard’s inclusion to the starting lineup earlier before this matchday. The talisman returned against Denmark and put out a good performance and is a key differential against a porous Finland side.
  • Dries Mertens (9 million) – He was taken off at halftime in the last game. He has already recorded an assist in his first game and will be looking to get on the scoresheet too.

Players like Doku, Batshuayi, and Benteke are very high risk but have very low ownership, so can be great for your rank if they start and maybe even score. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the manager give players like these a chance in this match.

Russia

Russia needs to win to guarantee them going through to the knockouts. A draw will also suffice as long as Finland loses to Belgium, but the Russian players will definitely want the win as the safest option.

  • Dzyuba (8.5 million) – Dzyuba is a good differential option for this match as he will lead the attack on Russia.
  • Golovin (7.5 million) – He could also be a useful differential if you’re on a wildcard and have one more midfielder space.
  • Safonov (4 million) – If you are facing budget restrictions, Safonov can be a worthy inclusion with Denmark registering only 1 goal from their 11 shots on goal.

Denmark

Denmark struggled following the devastating incident in Matchday 1. However, they can still finish second with a win against Russia, but they must also hope that Finland loses against Belgium. It would then go to goal difference which means Denmark needs to do all they can to boost their margin. The Danish players will also be hoping that Belgium can diminish Finland’s goal difference as much as possible too.

  • Poulsen (8 million) – The Leipzig target man could be a promising differential, with already 10 points on his record. Denmark needs to score as many goals as possible, and it will be on Poulsen to lead the line.

Group C

Netherlands

The Netherlands is the 3rd team alongside Belgium and Italy to be already through to the knockouts. Expect a heavily rotated lineup as many players will be rested, especially since the opponents have got nothing left to play for in the tournament.

  • Malen (6 million) – He will have a high chance of starting, and he has already recorded an assist in the 27 minutes of game time he has had so far.
  • Owen Wijndal (4.5 million) – He has restricted to appearances from the bench so far but his team now qualified, he is in contention to start the game with making 8 key passes for the Dutch during their World Cup qualifiers.

We may also see the likes of Berghuis, Weghorst, and Gravenberch, getting a runout. This is a good opportunity to get a hold of these fringe players as many Euro Fantasy managers may not be aware of the expected rotation.

Ukraine

Ukraine have had a good campaing and can now guarantee a second place finish with at least a draw, but a win would be ideal.

  • Yarmolenko (8.5 million) – The Ukraine skipper is a fantastic option if you have the funds as he has already recorded 18 points this campaign, the 3rd highest in the entire UEFA EURO 2020 Fantasy.
  • Malinovskyi (7 million) – He is also a good pick despite missing the penalty in the last game, the fact that he is on penalty duties makes him a strong asset.
  • Yaremchuk (7.1 million) – He has picked up returns in both the games so far. No teammate can better his tally of 4 shots on target or 2 big chances while only Yarmolenko has taken more touches than him in the penalty box.

Group D

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is most likely to top this group as they will need at least a draw for 1st place. If they lose, they will still finish 2nd as long as Scotland beat Croatia, but will drop to 3rd if Croatia wins by enough to overtake on goal difference.

One of the tournament’s top points scorers,

  • Schick (8.2 million) – He is definitely one to consider for the next fixture. However, it would not be too surprising to see the Czech Republic try and play a lot safer and hold out for a draw.

The goalkeeper Vaclik (5 million) and Coufal (5.1 million) are both good options, with the latter having good potential for attacking returns too.

England

England will need to simply avoid defeat against the Czech Republic to allow them to go through to the knockouts. A win would take them 1st. The only way by which England can slip to 3rd is if they lose and Scotland can bump up their goal difference.

England has played a very similar team in both the last matches, and may also do the same. However, we may see some rotation involved to give some rest to those players, and a chance to some others.

  • Grealish (7.5 million) – Grealish may get his first start in this Euros campaign.
  • Sancho (9.5 million) – Sancho is in contention for the starting lineup making his first appearance, and a return from him could make him a fantastic differential.

If you want someone safer, the likes of Kane, Mount and Pickford are all promising options.

Croatia

This is a must-win for Croatia, and it must be a big win as Croatia can still qualify by goal difference. Otherwise, they will have to settle for a 3rd place finish. A loss would take them 4th and out of the competition.

  • Perisic (8.5 million) – After the defeat last Sunday, Croatia will have plenty to play for. He took 5 touches in England’s Penalty Box and additionally scored a wonder goal against the Czech Republic.
  • Kramaric (6.5 million) – Additionally Kramaric is a good differential picks from Croatia since they are a team looking to score as many goals as possible. However, Scotland has a very strong defensive structure which would make it quite difficult for the Croatian attackers to create, similar to how England failed in that department.

Group E

UEFA EURO 2020 Fantasy Matchday 3: Group E

Sweden

As long as Sweden wins this game, they are through to the knockouts. Anything lower will then make things a little more complicated and will also take standings to goal difference, as the points are tight here.

  • Aleksander Isak (8 million) – Isak is a strong differential option and has been impressing everyone as he is yet to get his first goal in this tournament.
  • Forsberg (7.5 million) – Emile Forsberg can also make a good value pick if you have space left in your midfield.

Spain

Spain has been very underwhelming this campaign, struggling to get a win at all in the last 2 games. They can still qualify as long as they beat Slovakia in Matchday 3. A draw would also suffice as long as Poland wins their match, but otherwise, they would go down to 3rd.

  • Morata (9 million) and Ferran Torres (8 million) are good attacking options with potential however Spain has not at all been clinical in front of goal.
  • Unai Simon (5 million) – Simon is a good goalkeeping option since Spain has conceded just one goal in this tournament. With Slovakia on the other end, Spain are the favorites for retaining a clean sheet.
  • Pau Torres (4.5 million) – Given his value, Pau Torres offers a strong clean sheet potential against Slovakia with La Roja having faced 4 shots vs Sweden in their first game but conceding none.

Slovakia and Poland

Neither players of Slovakia and Poland are standout picks for this matchday. Slovakia faces a Spanish side who has a considerably tight defense and only Robert Lewandowski (11.5 million) offers attacking returns for the Polish. The Pole isn’t the same as he is for Bayern despite scoring against Spain, but considering his price tag, there are better options elsewhere.

Group F

EURO 2020 Fantasy Matchday 3

France

France suffered a shock draw against Hungary, but still has a high chance of going through. They need to at least draw against Portugal. They will also be able to go through if Germany ends up with a draw against Hungary. A loss would make it difficult for France to finish in the Top 2. Even though they are in the best position out of all teams in this Group, they can’t be caught slacking from here.

  • Lucas Hernandez (6.5 million) – The left-back was benched for the last game and so he is likely to start against Portugal. He has a strong attacking record and is worth going for if you have the capacity to do so.

Griezmann (11 million) is a strong option here, alongside Benzema (10 million) and Mbappe (12 million). However, they are all quite costly, although worth picking on a limitless or wildcard.

Germany

A win would take Germany straight through to the knockouts, which is helped by the fixture against Hungary. If they take a shock draw or even a loss, they’ll have to hope that other teams slip up too.

Fantasy managers will definitely want to triple up on Germany for this Matchday.

  • Robin Gosens (5 million) – After losing to France on matchday 1, Germany will be expected to fill their strongest side against Hungary. The left-wingback had a stellar outing against Portugal with 2 assists and a goal and offers returns in both attack and defense against Hungary.
  • Serge Gnabry (9.5 million) – If Germany were to go all guns blazing against Hungary, a major part is up to Gnabry who offers considerable offensive returns if you are on your limitless squad.

Players like Neuer (6 million) have the potential for a clean sheet. On the opposite end, Muller (9 million) is a costly pick but promising picks especially if you are on a wildcard/limitless.

Portugal

Like Germany, Portugal must win here to confirm the Top 2 finish. Anything worse will mean they have to rely on other teams to slip up too.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo (12.1 million) – Ronaldo is the best asset from here, and one of the only ones worth considering. He is a good option to have one a limitless and has the potential to score and assist.
  • Both Diogo Jota (8.5 million) and Bruno Fernandes (10.5 million) are decent options but are quite expensive for their recent performances.
