1. Lack of team synergy

One of the biggest reasons for Team SouL’s failure was the lack of synergy among the players. Team synergy plays a big part in the team’s success. This new lineup was formed in November after the disbanding of the previous star-studded lineup. Roxx and Viru had joined whereas Viper was the only player from the old line-up. Yuva and Deathnote had joined in early December. In Esports, it takes almost two to three months to make a stable line-up with good synergy. It was almost impossible to create synergy in this short span.

2. Inconsistency

Consistency is a factor to get success. SouL was not consistent enough in the quarter-finals of the tournament. If we look closely, we can see that SouL got 6 and 5 points from the first two matches respectively. After that, they suddenly got 18 and 17 points from the 3rd and 4th match respectively. But as we said earlier, they were not consistent enough, as they got a total of 3 points from the last two matches. This sudden dip was enough to eliminate them from the tournament.

3. Wrong mindset

The mindset and the approach of the team in the last two matches were not so good. In the previous matches, they were doing good in the survival and also getting a moderate amount of finishes. But in the 5th and 6th match, they suddenly started playing extra-defensive, taking unnecessary fights while making the rotations. These decisions from the in-game leader and the team cost them both the matches. Only one player was alive in the 5th match after the fight and was struggling to enter the safe zone. In the 6th match, they got wiped while taking a fight in the rotation, which could have been avoided.

4. High level of competition

The level of the competition and intensity was too high to handle for SouL. The underdog teams were playing unexpectedly well and going toe-to-toe with the experienced invited teams. Only 13 out of the 32 invited teams were able to reach the semi-finals of Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021-22. This statistic surely shows the level of the competition of the tournament. In the previous stages, we saw many upsets through the eliminations of some big names like 8bit, Chemin esports, Velocity Gaming, etc.

5. Less gunpower

Good gunpower always plays a key role in a team’s success. Team SouL lacked in gunpower as well. Viru, who had played as a support player in his previous teams like Orange Rock and Entity Gaming was playing the same role in this team too. SouL Viper, who is not known for his entry-fragging or assaulting skills, but for his supporting and middle-man skills. He had been playing as a support player in the previous SouL line-ups. Roxx was the in-game leader of the team.

He could play as a secondary assaulter, but the task of an in-game leader takes a lot of focus in the rotations and holdings. These were eventually affecting his gunpower. The only player left was YuvaOp, who was the only proper assaulter of the team. It would be too much for him to deliver consistently at this stage of the tournament, where the competition is so high. Although he and his teammates tried their level best to overcome these shortcomings, it was not enough in the end. Luck was not with SouL and it was not their day.
