Video game developer Beamdog has released its classic strategy game Axis & Allies 1942 Online to iPads, with cross-play support for iPadOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. This strategy game is available now for download on the App Store as a premium title. Moreover, Beamdog has also confirmed plans to launch this game on Android tablets later this year as well.
Axis & Allies 1942 Online: Gameplay Overview
Axis & Allies 1942 Online is an official digital adaptation of Avalon Hill’s tabletop classic, Axis & Allies 1942 Second Edition. It is a turn-based strategy game in which players will go ahead as World War II powers on either side of the war: the United States, United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union form the Allies, while Germany and Japan make up the Axis.

Furthermore, Grieg has confirmed that this game will have a feature of syncing across devices, so players can switch between platforms to take turns, view their statistics, and create games. The Multiplayer mode is similarly cross-platform, so it is possible that custom games and ranked matchmaking may include players on iPadOS, Windows, macOS, or Linux operating systems.
I’ve wanted to get Axis & Allies 1942 Online on my tablet since the project’s inception,” said Oster. “My goal has always been to adapt the tabletop experience for fans like me— people who love Axis & Allies, but don’t always have time for the full board game. With the Steam version, we’d already reduced a ton of barriers to diving in: there’s no setup or cleanup, and you can take turns at your own pace. The tablet version offers even more freedom to play, since I take my iPad everywhere.

In addition to bringing the strategy classic to a new platform, developers added official text localizations to the franchise for the first time ever. Axis & Allies 1942 Online is now available in eight languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese. These languages are available in-game now on Steam and iPad and will be available for Android tablets when they will launch on that platform.
