BGMI esports roadmap 2022 is announced with a $800k (INR 6 Cr.) prize pool

Four major tournaments are included in the roadmap

Fans of BGMI have been speculating for quite some time as to when the roadmap for this year will be released. Months of speculation has finally come to an end as Krafton has finally unveiled the 2022 esports roadmap for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) which is the Indian version of PUBG Mobile.

Krafton has confirmed that they will be organizing four major tournaments in 2022 with a total prize pool of Rs. 6 crores (around $799,000). The tournaments are as follows:

  • Battlegrounds Mobile Open Challenge (BMOC)
  • Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS) season one
  • Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BMIS)
  • Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS) season two

It has been confirmed that both seasons of the BMPS will have a prize pool of Rs. 2 crores each (roughly $266,000). Krafton said in a press release that this is the highest prize pool for a single esports event in India till date. The registrations for the Battleground Mobile Open Challenge (BMOC) will start after this month itself. After that, the qualifiers will start at the end of March.

BGMI esports roadmap 2022: BMOC, BMPS, and BMIS timeline

Players can register for the BMOC when registrations begin at the end of February. The in-game qualifiers for BMOC will start in March 2022.

512 winning teams from in-game qualifiers > From 512 teams to 256 teams (Round 1) > From 256 teams to 64 teams (Round 2) > from 64 to 24 teams (Round 3). Only these 24 teams will be selected from Round 3 will then progress to BMPS (Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series) Season 1. In the BMPS Season 1 the qualified 24 teams will face off against another 24 invited teams.

Out of these 48 teams from the BMPS Season 1, 24 winning teams will play in the League Stage where they will play against each other in a Round Robin format. After the League Stage, 16 teams will play in the BMPS Season 1 Grand Finals. The 16 teams will be pitted against each other for a huge prize pool worth Rs INR 2 crores.

After the completion of the BMPS Season 1 the BGIS (Battlegrounds Mobile India Series) 2022 will start. As soon as the BGIS 2022 concludes the BMPS will return for Season 2.

What about the BGMI teams in the global PUBG Mobile esports scene

Krafton didn’t reveal any details about qualifying for the international tournaments of PUBG Mobile. The company said in a release, however, that it will be providing a “host of national and international opportuni1ties for sporting gamers.” If last year’s tournaments are taken into consideration then a team from India will be included in this year’s PMGC Finals. Last time Godlike Esports represented India in PMGC 2021.

Minu Lee, the head of BGMI at Krafton said in a statement, “Krafton remains committed to the development of the esports ecosystem in India, and in 2022, we will continue to provide a platform to players across the spectrum, be it pro-level or simply gaming enthusiasts via a range of tournaments and thoughtfully curated experiences. With more and more talent emerging, and the esports ecosystem growing exponentially in India, we look forward to hosting these tournaments that promise to be intensely competitive and full of nail-biting game moments. We are steadfast to provide a global platform for these players to showcase and harness their skills.”
