BGMI records 34 million players in launch week with a top position in Google Play

Battlegrounds Mobile India breaking records!

As a result of the Indian government’s ban on September ’20, BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) made an official launch on 2 July ’21. After the official launch week in India, BGMI recently crossed 34 Million registered users and resulting in taking the first position in Google Play in the Free-to-play category.

The count of daily active users reached 16 Million and a count of 2.4 Million was recorded as the highest number of viewers during a live stream.  Another consideration is that BGMI has only been made available to Android users, discovering the fact that it is yet to be released for iOS. This fact is self-sufficient to prove how efficiently BGMI is continuing its journey, leaving an enormous impact.

Progress before the ban

BGMI, earlier known as PUBG Mobile, had a huge effect on the country’s youth before it started facing problems with government policies. In 2020, PUBG recorded 752 million downloads worldwide, to which India contributed 180 million downloads. Undoubtedly, BGMI not only got a backbone from the existing players but attained other milestones of gaining support from newly joined players after the comeback.

Statistics of BGMI launch week compared to Genshin Impact and COD Mobile

Making the first move towards sighting at the success made by Genshin Impact, it also saw a huge success in just a week after the release. It made an account of 23 Million downloads worldwide and increased a total value of $60 Million, which surged to $100 Million in the following week. It marked the third position in generating revenue after Honor Kings and PUBG Mobile in March ’21. Genshin Impact’s footprints were global compared to BGMI which is limited to India. The progress made by Genshin Impact was indeed huge and even generated a sky-high revenue, but when comparing it to BGMI it stands out to have a much wider impact.

Furthermore, comparing it to Call of Duty Mobile, another big name in the gaming industry. In the month of its release, it has left a mark in the gaming industry by racking up a total of $58 million with a download account of more than 148 million. Another milestone achieved was in June 2020, when the game saw a download count of 250 Million.

COD Mobile and BGMI can be said to have made similar progress in making an estimated value of download count of up to 140 Million in a month. But, the differentiation coming up is of the wide range covered.

Final thoughts

With popular games like Garena Free Fire, Among Us, Call Of Duty Mobile, and many more continue to make progress in the country, the position of BGMI remains undisturbed even after the issues it faced. It is also believed to grow more with the launch of the iOS version. Further, the game will soon be having its July update with many esports tournaments to be held, as stated by KRAFTON. The launch of the Esports tournament will help the gaming industry of India to build up a more impactful gaming industry to stand out for global competition.
