Blizzard Entertainment has reportedly filed a lawsuit against NetEase Games over an alleged copyright infringement resulting in unfair competition. This comes after Netease previously filed a lawsuit against Blizzard Entertainment. Not much is yet to be known about the incident but the case will be heard by the Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court on June 1 this year.
Blizzard Entertainment believes Netease violated licensing and copyright agreements
Blizzard Entertainment has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Netease, not much is known about the incident as of now. However, recently NetEase filed a lawsuit against Blizzard Entertainment over refunds for discontinued games in China. According to rumors this time around Blizzard Entertainment is lining up a similar legal action against NetEase for the server for World of Warcraft Veteran launched by Netease Leihuo Technology after the contract expiration period.
Blizzard Entertainment believes that the World of Warcraft Veteran server launched by NetEase’s new game Nishuihan is way too similar to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. Notices were added recently to the corporate information platform Tianyancha about two new legal cases against NetEase for alleged copyright and trademark infringements and unfair competition.
The tensions have been high between Netease and Blizzard since the contract between them got ended. “The contract terms that NetEase seems to be dissatisfied with involve standard industry practices and have been mutually beneficial for both parties in the past few years. Although these ongoing actions have made us feel disappointed and confused, it should be pointed out that our nearly 20 years of operation in China have always been very positive and pleasant, and we will continue to serve local players and protect their rights.” Blizzard Entertainment quoted after receiving the lawsuit from Netease last month.
