BonusXP, the studio behind Netflix’s Stranger Things game franchise is shutting down

The studio is ceasing operations after 11 years in the scene

BonusXP, the studio behind the Stranger Things games inspired by the popular Netflix Series of the same name, has announced that it is shutting down. The official announcement was made on the studio’s official Twitter account after spending 11 years in the gaming industry.

There is no official reason why the studio is shutting down

BonusXP is a game development studio from Texas founded in 2012 and has been popular for creating games with a high replay value. They are known for Monster Crew, an endless platformer. Even though it received around 100K downloads, it received favorable reviews.

The studio rose into popularity for its stylized retro adventure Stranger Things: 1984, partnering with Netflix. They went on to release Stranger Things 3: The Game, which was part of the five new mobile games announced in 2021 from Netflix. This featured 12 playable characters from the third season of the popular drama.

However, following this, there wasn’t much communication on the upcoming games, and sadly, it will remain the same with the ceasing of operations. With the process undergoing, the cause for the stoppage has yet to be confirmed, leaving room for speculation. It is also unclear whether the studio has suspended the development of an ARPG in the works which they had announced a while ago.

However, the studio has confirmed its focus on assisting its employees in finding new opportunities in the industry, which is the primary goal for any company ending operations. Companies looking for familiar faces in the industry can contact the studio at their official email at info@bonusxp.com.
