Logitech G has revealed that esports careers are gaining stronger recognition worldwide, but many people still believe the industry needs better education and structured career pathways. According to the company’s latest global study, 65% of respondents support formal esports education through universities, colleges, and specialized courses.
Education and career pathways have become a major demand
The survey highlights how professional gaming is slowly becoming more accepted across generations, especially among younger audiences. Around 54% of global respondents now see esports as a legitimate career path, with support climbing to 67% among Gen Z and 60% among Millennials. Older generations are still more skeptical, though, as only 37% of Boomers agreed with the idea.
Regional differences are also quite noticeable. In countries like China and Switzerland, support for esports education and careers remains very high, while nations like the UK, France, and Germany are still more cautious. And one interesting detail from the report showed that Chinese Boomers are far more supportive of professional gaming compared to German Boomers, which shows how differently esports is viewed around the world.
Derek Perez, Logitech G’s Global Communications Gaming Lead, explained that esports has evolved far beyond entertainment and now offers genuine opportunities for personal and professional success. He also noted that “more can be done to support younger generations in pursuing careers in professional gaming.“
Esports still faces barriers despite growing popularity
Even with esports becoming more aspirational in 2026 compared to a decade ago, many challenges still remain. Financial risk, intense competition, lack of job security, and limited parental or societal support continue to discourage many aspiring players. A large number of respondents also believe people still see gaming as just a hobby rather than a serious profession.
The Logitech G PRO Series Survey also revealed growing recognition of the mental and physical demands of professional gaming. Around 84% of respondents believe esports is mentally demanding, while “more than half (55%) agree it is a physically demanding career.“
Not only that, many even think “gamers spend 10 – 12 hours per day grafting – far exceeding the traditional “9 to 5” working day. “At the same time, there is increasing support for esports in schools and mainstream sports culture.
Nearly half of the respondents believe “that schools should include esports classes in the curriculum alongside traditional sports,” while more than a third support its inclusion in the Olympic Games. So, with the esports industry continuing to expand worldwide, it genuinely looks like gaming careers are now becoming more serious, and though I wish it had happened sooner, I’m still happy.
Mr. Perez further added that proper access to “training, facilities, and technology,” will play a huge role in the future growth of esports careers.
