Clash Royale is bringing back the Retro Royale. Yes, you read it right. In what is a fantastic game mode all around, I believe there are some players who might not know about this, so this space will explain all about this mode and why many of you might like it.
Retro Royale is coming to Clash Royale on March 12, 2025
As I mentioned earlier, the Retro Royale event is bringing back the 2017 Clash Royale experience! This event runs from March 12 to March 26, 2025 and introduces a special mode where you can use only cards available in the game back in 2017.
Note that this is back as a Temporary ladder; news of making it permanent is not confirmed. Now, what is exciting is that this mode lets players experience the game as it was back in 2017, so no Champions, Evolutions, or any of those modern mechanics to spoil the fun.
80 OG cards will be present, chipping off from the 120 number. Matches will be held in the OG arena itself. It looks a little dull, yes, but it brings back memories of the time when there were no tower skins or arena changes.
Retro Royale brings both the Casual and Competitive modes
The mode has two leagues: Casual and Competitive. In Casual mode, you can play freely without any restrictions. Competitive mode is unlocked after you win 30 matches. A leaderboard will track the top players, so you can see how you rank against others.
As you progress, you’ll earn rewards like Season Tokens, Gold, and Chests. However, there’s no level cap either, so higher-level cards will have an advantage.
Coming to the meta, you can expect to see a lot of Giant, Pekka Bridge Spam, Golem, and Log Bait decks. I think I’ll be using something similar. As the meta evolves, other players might also come up with new variations of classic decks to adapt accordingly.
