FIFA makes its gaming comeback through Netflix Games ahead of the 2026 World Cup

A major announcement!

Story Highlights
  • A new FIFA football game will launch on Netflix Games in time for the 2026 World Cup.
  • The game will be free for Netflix members and playable solo or online with friends.

FIFA is officially making its return to gaming, and this time, it is doing so through Netflix Games. A newly reimagined FIFA football game is set to launch in 2026, timed around the FIFA World Cup, and it will be available exclusively to Netflix members at no extra cost.

The game is being developed and published by Delphi Interactive. Netflix members will be able to play solo or online with friends, using just their phone, with Netflix sharing the game as “built for anyone to jump in”.

The announcement ends years of speculation after FIFA and EA split in 2022

This announcement is significant because it finally gives clarity to years of speculation surrounding the FIFA gaming license. Ever since FIFA and Electronic Arts ended their long-running partnership in 2022, rumours have constantly pointed toward new publishers, especially 2K Games.

However, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick explained why a traditional FIFA-style simulation is far more complex than fans might think, noting that the FIFA license alone does not cover players, teams, or leagues. Hence, the rumours of a FIFA 2K died down with that.

With Netflix now partnering directly with FIFA, it also appears that future FIFA-licensed games could arrive on the platform as part of Netflix’s growing games catalogue. Netflix has already begun pushing games onto TVs using phones as controllers, and FIFA fits perfectly into that strategy as a globally recognised brand with mass appeal.

This move also lines up with Netflix’s larger ambitions in entertainment and gaming. With the company aggressively expanding its portfolio and reportedly leading talks to acquire Warner Bros., Netflix is clearly positioning itself as more than just a streaming platform.

For now, FIFA’s return through Netflix Games marks a new chapter for the franchise, with more details expected to be revealed sometime in 2026.
