- Fortnite returns to the Google Play Store in the US after its iOS comeback in May.
- Epic Games said the comeback follows Google’s compliance with the court order, and both sides are now seeking court approval for their settlement.
- Tim Sweeney noted it will remain available worldwide through the Epic Games Store on Android.
Epic Games, Inc. just announced the long-awaited comeback of its hit battle royale, Fortnite, on Android in the US after five years. This follows the game’s return to iOS in May in the US, after a major court ruling, as it was removed by both Google and Android due to a violation on Epic Games’ side in 2020.
Fortnite is back for mobile players with all of its content
Finally, the wait is over, and I couldn’t be happier to see Fortnite make its return. So, the removal happened in 2020 due to Epic Games introducing its own direct payment system with a 30% cut-off rate. This led to a major clash with both app stores, and soon followed long trials in court.
Epic Games didn’t back down and sued Google in 2023 for creating a monopoly inside the Google Play Store. Moreover, during the trial, it came out that Google once considered acquiring Epic Games in 2018. Google lost and paid $700 million, with Epic filing an injunction for policy reforms in 2024 for more freedom to third-party stores.
Epic Games also released a statement on X, stating, “Fortnite is back on the Google Play Store in the U.S. following Google’s compliance with the U.S. District Court’s injunction,” and revealed that they’re now working with “Google to seek court approval of our settlement.”
Epic Games CEO also shared his vision while thanking Google
The CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, added that the game will “continue to be available through Epic Games Store on Android worldwide,” and thanked Google for their support while stating, “This is the beginning of a new, open world of mobile gaming!” So, I’m quite hyped about this.
I may play different games these days, but I was a big Fortnite fan back in the day, and I still remember buying data packs to keep it updated. And, seeing it return to mobile, especially after its return to iOS in Australia and the European Union via the Epic Games Store and AltStore, makes me very happy.
Fortnite is now available on Android in the United States, and you can once again enjoy your favorite title by downloading it from the Google Play Store. iOS players can also download it from the App Store.
