- Genshin Impact debuts the new character Varesa, a 5-Star Electro Catalyst!
- Genshin Impact also makes Iansan, a long awaited and fan-favorite character playable!
- A new character Ifa finally makes an introduction in the new Version 5.5 Event!
The Genshin Impact Version 5.5 update, titled “Day of the Flame’s Return,” arrives on March 26th, 2025, offering exciting new gameplay features. In this patch, we prepare for an adventure diving headfirst into the southwestern lands of Natlan, where volcanic landscapes, fierce new playable characters, and brand-new mechanics promise to take our exploration and combat to another level!
New Exploration: A Journey to the Great Volcano of Tollan
Natlan has long been shrouded in mystery, but Version 5.5 is about to change that. The Great Volcano of Tollan, a place rich in history and sacred significance, is now open for exploration. Deep within its fiery depths lies a sacred city built by the Dragonborn, waiting to be awakened by the rumbling magma below.

The Flamelord’s Blessing and the Enigma of the Little One promise to bring some intense story developments, and I can’t wait to uncover what HoYoverse has in store. There’s something about lost civilizations and ancient power that always gets my curiosity going!
New Playable Characters and Re-Runs
Varesa: 5-Star Electro Catalyst user
Varesa, a 5-star Electro Catalyst user, brings a unique combat style centered around Plunging Attacks. By triggering her Fiery Passion state, she boosts her Electro DMG and gains access to a special Elemental Burst with reduced Energy cost. She restores Phlogiston after the party eats food!

Her lore also hints at a fun personality, fierce in battle but incredibly laid-back in everyday life. I can already tell she’s going to be a fan favorite!
Iansan: 4-Star Electro Polearm
Iansan, the long-awaited 4-star Electro Polearm user, is finally here! She’s not just a combat powerhouse, she’s also a fantastic ATK buffer and healer. Her Elemental Burst boosts the on-field character’s ATK even when she’s off-field, and her buffs scale based on movement. That means fast-moving teams are going to love her support potential!

And let’s not forget her healing: triggering a Nightsoul Burst lets her restore HP to the active character over time. Iansan being one of Natlan’s six heroes and Varesa’s coach makes her even cooler!
Re-runs and Chronicled Wish
Varesa and Iansan’s debut, alongside Xianyun’s rerun, makes the first half of Version 5.5’s Event Wishes. After that, we’ll also get reruns for Xilonen and Venti in the second half of the update. This roster has something for everyone!
Bloomflower Trials Return and The Saurian Treasure Seeker Event
Natlan’s Bloomflower Trials are making a comeback! Players will join Mavuika, Ifa, and other allies to compete in this exciting event where we help Saurian suffering from a rare illness. If there’s one thing I love, it’s an event with heart.

Then there’s the Saurian Treasure Seeker mini-game, where we help baby Saurians overcome obstacles and collect shiny treasures. It sounds like an adorable and fun side activity, plus, participating lets us invite Ororon for free!
New Boss and Gameplay Optimizations
Brace yourselves, because a brand-new boss is waiting in the volcano’s depths: the Lava Dragon Statue. If it’s anything like previous dragon bosses, we’re in for an epic, fiery battle that will test our reflexes and strategy.

As for system optimizations, HoYoverse is improving Artifact leveling! Using Sanctifying Elixirs will now guarantee at least two upgrades to the chosen Minor Affixes. Finally, a quality-of-life change that’ll make the endless grind feel more rewarding!
Version 5.5 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting updates in recent memory. From a sprawling new volcanic region to long-awaited characters, adorable Saurians, and epic new challenges, there’s something for everyone.
